“Cage Combat 3: Independence” – Results, Recap, and Pictures from Humble, TX!

May 7, 2011 – Last night provided another exciting night of action for Houston’s MMA fans with the Cage Combat 3 show at the Humble Civic Center.

Highlighted by impressive wins by two new champions, this Garcia Promotions show delivered twelve amateur MMA fights on the evening that included several fighters who could be destined for the professional ranks in the not-so-far future.

In the main event of the evening, Team Tooke’s Guilherme Moreira was highly impressive in KO’ing fellow highly-touted prospect Santos Rosales of Corpus Christie. “G” was undaunted in facing his opponent, a boxing specialist. He traded with the South Texas fighter until he was able to catch Rosales flush on the jaw with a right hook that put him down for the count, instantly causing the referee Patrick Patlan to stop the bout. With this victory, Moreira now becomes a two-time champion for Garcia Promotions. As for the next step in his career, Guilherme mentioned that he would go professional when he “feels like himself in the cage.” Not sure if that was tonight per say but look for more great things from this up-and-coming fighter.

In the other featured bout of the evening, Hossan Walker used some newly-acquired ground skills and his trademark toughness to pull out a gritty victory over an equally-impressive Aaron Croon. This bout went back-and-forth for five rounds of championship action with both fighters trading advantages in the clinch and on the ground. In the end, it was Walker who put the “hoss” in Hossan as he earned the title via a superior effort in the later rounds for the decision victory.

Elsewhere on the card, fighters Andrew Musquiz, Rodrigo Rodriguez, and Randy McCullough impressed definitive victories over their unlucky opponents. Nick Woodard of Bushi Ban also impressed in his decision victory over Ian Hanes by using a plethora of spinning backfists and high-flying kicks to win over the crowd.

Congrats to all the Cage Combat 3 fighters who stepped in the cage last night. In the end, especially in the amateur ranks, “you either win or you learn,” so every one of you guys should have came out with something valuable yesterday evening. Cheers to all you guys!
