April 21, 2011 – Depending on who you talk to, the Legacy Fighting Championship Voting Contest to name former power ranger Jason David Frank’s next opponent is either (A) a not-so elaborate publicity stunt geared towards garnering the promotion attention while showcasing a quasi-celebrity and part-time MMA fighter or (B) a legit opportunity for Houston’s local fans to pick the fighter who will finally put Jason David Frank in his place.
Opinions may range somewhere in-between these two points of view but that’s pretty much the gist of it.
Never since a man by the name of Reed Cook has a local personality been so vilified in local Texas MMA circles as Frank currently is, with accusations of his past MMA performances being fixed fights (against teammates, no less) being the chief point of contention amongst his detractors.
There are other stories that add fuel to the fire but long story short, a large number of observers out there who want to see Jason David Frank not only get beat, but pummeled into oblivion, never to be heard from again.
Yet however negative some (most) of the attention drawn by Frank has been, there is a saying that applies to his case which states that “there is no such thing as bad press.”
That opinion is evident for JDF (as Frank is more commonly referred to around these parts) in the form of this Legacy Voting Contest, which has had fighters lining up from Houston, Dallas, and beyond in order to get a crack at “the power ranger.”
Recently joining Tony Orozco’s Silverback Fight Club, JDF seems ready to answer that bell and prove to the public that he merits more respect in this game than the past accusations and performances that have characterized him so far.
Time will tell whether his next bout will result in that elusive respect but certainly seems to be the goal.
To JDF’s credit, some very credible supporters have stood by him throughout this process, with top fighters like Legacy Welterweight Champion Mike Bronzoulis, IXFA Heavyweight Champion Derrick “Black Beast” Lewis, Patrick Hutton, and many others all validating his skill set and supporting him as he seeks to earn mainstream acceptance through this next fight and beyond. And they all say the same thing, that he’s for real when it comes to his fighting abilities and should do very well in the cage.
So what do you guys think? Is Jason David Frank on his way to respectability or not? Chime in and let us know your thoughts.
