February 15, 2011 – Pretty significant MMA news out of the IBJJF Tournament today as Chad Robichaux let us know he has officially inked a deal to fight for the Bellator Fighting Championships. Rumors have been swirling around the city for awhile that “Robo” was on the verge of signing with a national promotion. Now that coming to fruition to the tune of a three-fight contract, setting up a siginificant 2011 campaign for the Gracie Bara black belt.

Currently undefeated, Chad “Robo” reports to Bellator coming off a win via decision against Humberto De Leon this past August at Strikeforce: Houston.  The #32 Ranked fighter at flyweight in the World according to FightMatrix, Robichaux currently holds an 11-0 record prior to making his Bellator debut and is looking to make a run at the top of the sport.

Those complaining about a lack of competitive fights for Chad Robichaux will soon be silenced as he is said to be making his Bellator debut against Zach Makovsky, a former NCAA Division-1 wrestler who became Bellator’s inaugural bantamweight champion with a win against Ed West this past October. Known as “Fun-Size,” Makovsky fought for Bellator four times in 2010, winning each and every bout. Riding on a seven-fight win streak, “Fun Size” has also fought previously for Elite XC, M-1, and Adrenaline promotions and currently holds a 12-2 record as the #8 ranked bantamweight fighter in the world on the previously-mentioned FightMatrix rankings. Training out Philadelphia Fight Factory with Bellator lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez, “Fun-Size” will be a Texas-sized challenge for the Houston-based Chad Robo but one he welcomes as he steps right onto the national scene.

Though currently unconfirmed by the promotion at the time of this writing, the bout between Chad Robichaux and Zack Makovsky will be a non-title affair and is scheduled for their April 16, 2011 event. This event, Bellator 41, will be aired on Bellator’s new home network, MTV2.
