Tonight we just saw the passing of a legend as Emelianenko Fedor lost for the second consecutive time against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in the opening round of the Strikeforce Grand Prix.

Battered, bruised, and with his left eye swelling shut, the Last Emperor battled through a second round pounding while trapped in Silva’s mount only to see the fight ended by the ringside physician as he was no longer able to see.

In his post-fight interview, Fedor more than intimated this might be the last time we’ll ever see him action, ending an era defined by his in-ring prowess and exemplified by his class and dignity through every win and both his recent losses.

“Thank you very much for your love and support. Something went wrong from the very beginning. Maybe now is the time to leave.” Said Fedor.

Asked by announcer Gus Johnson whether this was last fight, Fedor answered “Yes maybe this is the last time. Thanks for everything. I had a great beautiful sports life. Thanks for everything. Maybe this is God’s will.”

Fateful MMA fans of old, bow your heads in respect and pray tribute to a true champion. Always remember. Pride never dies.
