The holiday season is upon us once again here in Houston. This time of year is typically a time to celebrate togetherness for families and communities alike. All can enjoy each others’ company as we get a well-deserved respite from the daily rigors of work and daily life. Certainly a blessing for most but what is often neglected during this period of celebration is the plight of the underprivileged in our community, those who do not get to celebrate the same blessings as the rest of us and have to suffer, many times in the cold, during this time of year. In the spirit of helping those individuals of misfortune, I am pleased to announce that members of our Houston MMA Community is coming together once again to make a small difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves in our city.
As some of you know, our community has come together once before during May of this year in order to help alleviate the plight of the homeless. Together with myself, Rich & Barry of TheCageDoor.net, a few caring businesses in the area, and some of our local Houston MMA Superstars, our community banned together to create and distribute 200 meals to the less fortunate in Downtown Houston. Now Mike “Boss” Miller and others in our community are stepping up to pay their blessings forward in the spirit of giving.
Damage Fight Company and FS Fight Gear have put together an effort, entitled “MMA Covering Houston” to collect and distribute blankets to help somewhat without. Together with several location academies who have volunteered to be collection areas, these awesome folks will collect as many blankets, clothing, etc. until November 26, 2010. Please stop in to any of these locations and help contribute to the cause so that we can once again show Houston that our hearts are every bit as strong as our fists.
