Tournament Round One
Match 1:ÿ Xavier Mejia (Team Pound) vs. Ron Webb (TNG Jiu-Jitsu)
Round 1:
The two close and clinch and go to the ground and are immediately stood up after a stalemate, they clinch again and Mejia lands a good knee, Wood attempts to take him down but Mejia sprawls and lands another good knee to Webb’s head from the sprawl position.ÿÿ Eventually Webb is able to keep driving forward and get the takedown and attempts to pass Mejias guard as Mejia works the kimura on Webb’s left arm from the side, but Webb escapes and begins to try and work ground and pound briefly.ÿ Mejia will not be denied, taking control of the arm again, and working the arm from within the guard until he finally gets the tap from Webb via kimura at 1:54 R1.
Match 2:ÿ Jonathan Ivey (Third Column Thugjitsu) vs. Corey “The Pimpslayer” Salter (Independent)
Round 1:
They close to center ring and Ivey lands two low kicks, Salter answers back, and drives Ivey back with a shot and Ivey charges in and lands with a front push kick.ÿ Salter pursues and lands a kick to the body and shortly thereafter two kicks to Ivey’s left calf.ÿ Salter begins to stalk Ivey on the feet, and Ivey begins giving ground, looking for an opening to shoot.ÿ Ivey fires a jab and is hit with a loud kick to the belly.ÿ Salter continues to stalk Ivey on the feet, getting the better of their exchanges and working Ivey’s legs with low kicks, but Ivey is game and still firing hard combos.ÿ Ivey flurries at the end of the round to try and steal the round, driving Salter into the corner, and the crowd goes nuts.
Round 2:
Both close to center ring and Ivey dances around Salter, who still stalks Ivey. Ivey shoots but Salter sidesteps and barely misses with a kick to the head.ÿ Ivey tries to roll to go for a leg submission but Salter evades, Salter then backs Ivey into a corner with a hard body shot, and begins to open up, smelling blood.ÿ Ivey covers up as Salter drives him to the other corner and begins to unload with hands and feet. Ivey does not answer, mostly covering up, and perhaps sensing the stop was near, Ivey drives out of the corner and tries to fight back but Salter’s offense still mostly goes uncountered, prompting ref Vanya Dedushev to stop the match amid heavy boos to give Salter the victory at 1:37 R2.
Match 3:ÿ Ashley Rivers (Ground Zero) vs.ÿ Chris Seifert (Baton Rouge Mixed Martial Arts)
Round 1:
Both feel each other out on the feet at center ring, with Seifert pawing at Rivers’ lead hand, Rivers fires a combo and they clinch and scramble with Seifert getting the takedown into side control.ÿÿ Rivers gets back up and powers Seifert over for an attempted takedown from the clinch but Seifert recovers and both get back to the feet, with Seifert maintaining the clinch and driving Rivers to the corner, landing several hard knees to Rivers in the corner.ÿ Rivers answers back with a couple of knees and tries to get out of the corner but Seifert maintains control of Rivers in the corner and both trade knees.ÿÿ Rivers is able to sidestep and reverse, driving Seifert to the corner, and Rivers goes for a punch or shoot it’s not clear but Seifert sidesteps and takes his side/back from standing, going for a choke,ÿ Rivers is in trouble for a second but escapes and goes after Seifert, the two collide into the ropes and Seifert manages to take mount as they both go to the ground, finishing the round throwing shots to Rivers’ head.
Round 2:
Seifert lands a right to Rivers, and Rivers drives into him, clinching and trying to drive Seifert to the corner, but Seifert reverses it and takes Rivers down, mounting rivers near the ropes.ÿ The ref stands them up because of the ropes, and on the restart Rivers again drives Seifert to the ropes but Seifert again gains control in the clinch and drives Rivers into the ropes, landing several knees and ripping Rivers away and taking him down, landing in Rivers’ half guard.ÿ The fighters stalemate, and the ref stands them up again.ÿÿ Seifert lands a huge left to Rivers head with a loud smack, and they clinch up with both fighters flurrying madly, again in the corner, and Seifert takes Rivers down with a throw out of the corner and finishes him with a shoulder lock at 2:23 R2.
Match 4:ÿ Brandon McDowell (San Diego City Boxing) vs.ÿ George Paz (TNT Jiu-Jitsu)
Round 1:
Paz lands a low kick, lands another, as McDowell tries to get the range, McDowell drives in for the clinch and goes for a guillotine in the corner, but Paz defends, throwing knees and keeping McDowell in the corner.ÿ Paz gets his head out and McDowell attempts to spin out of the corner but Paz maintains control, getting to half mount in the scramble, throwing strikes to McDowell’s body.ÿ The two get too close to the ropes and they’re stood up.ÿ On the restart, Paz goes after McDowell with a combo and McDowell ducks and shoots, taking Paz down in the corner, Paz has open guard and McDowell moves Paz back towards center ring to get some room to work. Paz and McDowell exchange strikes from within Pazs guard as the round ends.
Round 2:ÿÿ
Paz tries a low kick and McDowell clinches, driving Paz to the corner with knees, Paz reverses him, driving McDowell to the corner and throwing knees.ÿ McDowell goes for a low single but Paz sprawls and stops it, and they end up clinched in the corner, with McDowell driving back out to center ring and throwing knees, and eventually changing levels as Paz backpedals and picking the ankle to take Paz down.ÿÿÿ McDowell moves to side mount, and begins to throw blows to Paz’s body.ÿ Paz gets to half guard and tries to work his way out, but
Round 3:ÿ
Paz looks tired, as both fighters work from the feet. Paz lands a low kick that McDowell catches and is unable to convert the takedown on, but is then able to take down Paz from the ensuing clinch.ÿ McDowell continues to work strikes from within Paz’s half guard, with Paz seemingly unable to escape.ÿ The two get into the ropes and are restarted.ÿÿ Paz is noticeably tired.ÿÿ He tries another slow low kick which McDowell catches and converts to a takedown, taking side mount on Paz and striking Paz’s head again as the round ends.ÿÿ Brandon McDowell wins by Unanimous Decision.
Middleweight Match:ÿ Rocky Long (Third Column Thugjitsu) vs.ÿ Aaron Castaneda (Team Pound)
Round 1:
Long lands a low kick, and another, seemingly stalking Castaneda and backing him into a corner where the two trade briefly.ÿÿ The two continue to skirmish with Long landing the better of the two’s blows.ÿ Castaneda gives ground to Long, perhaps being tentative in only his second pro fight.ÿ They clinch up and Long lands some good knees and hands from inside the clinch.ÿ Castaneda escapes but Long pursues him into the corner, clinches, and lands another good knee to the head.ÿ Castaneda disengages bug Long continues to come in and skirmish, each time landing to he head or with a low kick.ÿÿÿ So far the match is all standup.ÿ Long tries a kick to the body which Castaneda catches and tries to use for a takedown but Long escapes and lands a good kick to the body.ÿÿÿ Long continues to stalk Castaneda, who is unable to answer back as effectively as Long in their exchanges.ÿ Long hears the knock for the last 10 seconds and goes wild, and lands a low kick, flurry, and body kick to Castaneda in the corner as Castaneda throws back and goes for an unsuccessful double leg takedown as the round ends.ÿÿ Coach Luis Benavides calls the fight, feeling that Castaneda cant continue, and Long wins by TKO.
Superheavyweight Tournament Semi-Final Round
Match 1:ÿ Xavier Mejia vs. Corey Salter
Round 1:
Salter stalks Mejia on the feet, as Mejia throws some hard jabs probing at Salter, landing one just as Salter lands a low kick.ÿ Mejia answers back with a leg kick as well.ÿ Salter starts to go after Mejia, land with a flurry, and stunning Javier with a good shot, driving him to the corner, where he lands a hard body shot and a head shot that drops Mejia.ÿ The ref comes in to give Mejia an 8 count, and on the restart, Salter lands again, stunning the already dazed Mejia again and Mejia stumbles.ÿ Salter follows him to the ground, taking his back and throwing hard shots from back mount with his hooks in, landing to the sides of Mejia’s head.ÿ The round ends with Salter working for the choke as Mejia is midway through escaping and reversing Salter.
Round 2;
ÿMejia lands a hard left to Salter and Salter lands a low kick, Mejia lands a low kick in return. And Salter opens up with his hands, landing a couple of shots, and Mejia changes levels to go for the takedown, but Slater defends and is able to scramble and take mount.ÿ Mejia lands loud body shots to Salter’s sides, but Salter is undeterred and lands a couple of hard shots to Mejia that force Mejia to turn and give his back.ÿ Salter goes for the choke, still with hooks in, and Mejia is able to roll through, and Salter is still mounted.ÿÿ Salter again lands shots from mount, Mejia again turns to his stomach and Salter again takes his back, puts hooks in and alternates between choke attempts and throwing shots to Mejia’s body and head.ÿ The round ends with Salter still working some strikes to Mejia’s head.ÿ Salter looks tired.ÿ Salter looks absolutely exhausted in the corner, with his hands hanging on the ropes, and Salter cannot continue due to fatigue and Mejia advances to the finals.
Match 2:ÿ Chris Seifert vs. Brandon McDowell
Round 1:
Seifert clinches, both fight for control in the clinch, with McDowell landing knees as Seifert attempts to drive him to the corner.ÿ They disengage, and Seifert initiates a clinch again, and the two trade knees as McDowell resists Seifert’s clinch attempts and seems better at controlling the range and gaining head control.ÿ McDowell backs Seifert to the corner and Seifert goes for a takedown butÿ McDowell defends, McDowell drives him to another corner,ÿ changes levels as Seifert tries a knee, takes the elevated leg from the knee attempt and takes Seifert down, landing in Seifert’s half guard and throwing a few strikes before the ref stands them up for stalemate.ÿ The round ends just before the fighters have a chance to restart.
Round 2:
ÿSeifert lands a good left toÿ MC Dowell’s face, stunning McDowell, and Seifert clinches and takes Brandons back from standing, then attempts to drop back for a throw, but Brandon turns on the way down and attempts to take a leg for a kneebar.ÿ There is a scramble and Seifert loses control, briefly has McDowells back but McDowell escapes and reverses, and McDowell eventually ends up on top inside Seifert’s open guard.ÿ McDowell passes to sidemount.ÿ Seifert gets back to guard, McDowell throws strikes down, passes again, Seifert gets guard back and reverses McDowell, taking McDowells back and putting hooks in.ÿ Seifert goes for the rear naked and McDowell defends, getting back to his knees, with Seifert still in control from back mount with hooks in working for the choke, as the round ends.
Round 3:
Both fighters are tired, and probe at each other with jabs, neither landing solid but Seifert finally initiates the clinch with McDowell attempting knees, Seifert tries an outside trip from the clinch but McDowell sprawls and is able to convert to a takedown, moving to sidemount then north-south in the scramble, with Seifert able to get back to full guard.ÿ The two stalemate and they are restarted.ÿÿ Seifert still probes, pawing at the lead hand and trying a low kick to set up his entry, but McDowell this time initiates the clinch and again lands some knees, both fighters exchanging blows in the clinch to the body.ÿ McDowell again getting better head control.ÿ McDowell backs Seifert to the corner and throws some shots, and Seifert hears the knock for the final 10 seconds and goes for a single leg and can’t get it, reverses McDowell, putting McDowells back in the corner and both fighters turn it up a notch as the round ends with them both throwing body shots in the corner.ÿ Unanimous Decision for Brandon McDowell.
International Rules Kickboxing Match:ÿ Edward Rosario (Janjira Muay Thai) vs. Lee King (Houston Kickboxing Gym)
Round 1:
Both probe each other with jabs and low kicks, both landing, King having a reach advantage.ÿ ÿÿBoth skirmish with neither fighter getting clear advantage, with both fighter landing low kicks and kicks to the body.ÿÿ King lands a good straight that seems to inspire Rosario, who drives King to the corner with a right and a low kick. King escapes the corner and the round ends with both fighters pretty much even.
Round 2:
Round 3:
Rosario goes after him again, but King gets the better of the exchanges, landing solidly several times with low kicks and flurries to the head, stunning Rosario, who is game but cannot mount a counterattack as King begins to unload with everything, landing with kicks to the body and legs, and punches to the head as Rosario can only cover up and teeter on the ropes.ÿ Finally after Rosario seems unable to answer back and King continues to unload, Saekson Janjira throws in the towel, giving King the win at 1:03 R3.
Rosario was a last minute replacement for the injured Anthony Njokuani, who previously defeated King in their last meeting.
Non-Tournament Superheavyweight Single Match:ÿ Ricky McClemore vs. Edwin Allseitz (Mousel’s
Round 1:
McClemore rushes and tries to take Edwin down with a single leg, Edwin defends well, They end up against the ropes several times with McClemore landing one good shot to the head, Edwin continues to defend well until McClemore is able to take him down with an outside trip.ÿ McClemore tries to work ground and pound in Edwins guard, as Edwin seemingly looks for another one of his trademark escapes.ÿÿ A cut is opened on Edwin’s head and there is an injury time out.ÿ The doctor rules the cut is too serious and the match is stopped in favor of McClemore at
Superheavyweight Final:ÿ Brandon McDowell vs. Xavier Mejia
Round 1:
Mejia and McDowell probe with jabs briefly and clinch, with McDowell taking Mejia down with a head and arm, McDowell takes side control then Kesa Gatame, throwing strikes to Javier’s head while looking for either an entangled arm or a side choke.ÿ Mejia throws knees to McDowells back and defends as best he can but McDowell seemingly is able to control this range at will.ÿÿ McDowell transitions to mount then back mount as Mejia scrambles, andÿ As Mejia rolls McDowell is able to take mount again, still landing strikes to Mejia’s head from mount.ÿ Mejia is totally defensive, throwing a few strikes back but McDowell is firmly in control as the round ends.
Round 2:
Mejia tries to work strikes from outside range but McDowell clinches and takes him down in the center of the ring, ending in Mejias guard and throwing strikes to Mejia’s belly.ÿ Mejia tries to defend but McDowell rears up several times to throw strikes to Mejia’s belly before stacking and passing to side control.ÿ The two stalemate and are restarted.ÿ Mejia lands a low kick, and again tries to establish a striking game from outside, evading and throwing jabs until McDowell clinches and takes him down at the end of the round.
Round 3:ÿ Mejia again tries to throw strikes but McDowell takes him down andÿ passes to side, throwing strikes, he briefly takes Mejias back, Mejia tries to roll and take a kneebar but Brandon negates it, and gets back to side control, again working strikes to Mejia’s head.ÿ McDowell again takes Kesa Gatame, again looking for the arm, but Mejia defends and McDowell takes mount.ÿ McDowell continues to stay busy throwing strikes as Mejia tries to fire back from the bottom.ÿ The round ends with McDowell flurrying from mount.ÿ Unanimous Decision for Brandon McDowell, who takes home the Renegades Superheavyweight Belt.
