In case you havent heard, Pete Spratt was victorious over Robbie Lawler at last night’s UFC 42: Sudden Impact in Miami. Spratt took Lawler out of his game for the most part, landing several heavy leg kicks on the way to Lawler verbally signaling he could not continue near the end of round 2. It was not clear if it was due to damage from Spratt’s kicks, but was was stated by Dana White at the postfight press conference was that Lawler suffered a dislocated hip. After round 1, however, it was clear that Lawler was suddenly giving a lot of ground to Spratt in the standup game after feeling some of what Pete had to offer. Spratt even managed to use an overhook/underhook from the clinch to throw Lawler with a lateral drop (thanks to Yousef!) and land in mount to end a winning first round. As far as other Texans (or ex-Texans), former Amarillo resident and USWF star Evan Tanner suffered a stoppage at the hands of Rich Franklin, after becoming dazed from strikes absorbed on the feet. Congratulations to Spratt on beating USA Today’s 4:1 odds in favor of Lawler, and we’ll have a blow by blow recount of all the matches along with photos shortly.
