(Richardson, Texas) In a two-state rivalry normally reserved for October and The Cotton Bowl, several proud Texas fighters stepped-in to defend “lone-star honor” versus competitors from Oklahoma at the Fightatorium on July 13th. Conan Mincey traveled South with several athletes from his Norman-based studio, and fans were treated to yet another thrilling fight-card from The North American Combative Sports Organization (NACSO). The first regulation bout of the evening pitted middleweights Jerry Casey (Dallas) against Skylar Coleman (Norman). The bout was the fighting debut for both men, and Coleman emerged victorious in a unanimous decision. The next bout on the card was much-anticipated, being that it was The Fightatorium’s first-ever regulation women’s match. Kingdom Kickboxing’s Kornelia Numic (130lbs) made her fighting debut against Oklahoma’s Sherry Maxwell (1-1 / 122 lbs). In a close fight between two spirited competitors, Maxwell’s experience proved to be the difference, earning her a split-decision victory by a single point over Numic. Both women will be fighting in the upcoming IKF National Tournament next month. Bout #3 featured welterweights Cody Smith (2-2 / Garland) against Conan’s Jose Sandoval (1-0). The fight was yet another crowd-pleaser, and a close one with Texan Smith emerging with a split-decision victory. In a featured bout on the card, Carrollton’s Wil Joseph (5-1) faced Dusty Miller (1-0) in a battle of heavyweights. In a fight that saw the momentum go back and forth between the two, it was Conan’s Miller that came away with another split decision win for “Team Oklahoma”. The final event of the evening featured the “comeback” of one of the finest amateur kickboxers in the country (Oklahoma’s Anthony McGauhey). The Oklahoma middleweight holds several Title belts, including the IKF National Championship from last year. McGauhey was injured several months ago in a snow-boarding incident, and was unable to train until recently. McGauhey showed class and form in disposing of a very game Kerry Collins from Bedford, with a stoppage towards the very end of round 2. McGauhey ran his amateur record to 23-0-1, while Collins’ mark took a hit of sorts and dropping to 6-2. NACSO’s next event is the long-awaited “Showdown at The Ranch”, which will feature close to 20 bouts at Southfork Ranch on Saturday July 27th.
