It gives me great pleasure to invite you to this year’s event at the beautiful Plano Centre. As usual, the Big “D” Nationals has strived to locate the best facility that can accommodate over 250 divisions with the ability to run as many as thirty rings.
As you know, The Big “D” Nationals has always been, and will continue to be, a well-run tournament beginning right on time. Tradition will continue with our unique and beautiful awards featuring six foot first place trophies. In addition, trophies and awards will be presented for 1st through 8th place finalists. In honor of the late Walt Mason, we are awarding a special 20th anniversary Memorial Gold-Diamond Ring for Black Belt Form and Sparring Grand Champions.
Each year, The Big “D” Nationals attracts martial arts styles that normally do not compete on other circuits. We see all styles of martial arts from all over the United States and Mexico. This year will be no different with representation from many Korean, Japanese and Chinese styles. For the sixth straight year, we will see Grappling practitioners in their own forum. Again, Mr. Carlos Machado, who is responsible for the growth of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu popularity in the southwestern United States, will coordinate these divisions. In addition, we will be introducing San Shou competition at this year’s event.
The Big “D” Nationals will again present the Handicapable division, and the Beginning Junior Demonstration division for kids competing for their first time. All participants in these divisions will receive a trophy – EVERYONE IS A WINNER! Remember, Pre-Registration is a must for both divisions.
Please be early this year to witness the start of the tournament with famous Lion Dance beginning exactly at 8:30 am. Immediately after, we will begin the Black Belt Forms, Weapons Forms, and Beginning Junior Demonstration divisions. The tournament will end with exciting Black Belt Grand Champion Evening Finals and Full-Contact Kickboxing featuring Texas & U.S. Title Bouts.
I’d like to thank all black belts, school owners, AOK and TKO producers, and parents who continually help make The Big “D” Nationals the great success it has become. Your past support is appreciated and I wish you continued success in all you do.
