After San Antonio BJJ instructor suffers stroke, here’s how to help
SAN ANTONIO, TX – When it comes to competition on the mats, Texas BJJ is as fierce as you’ll find anywhere. Our athletes give it their all. But when it comes to camaraderie off the mats, you’ll find that Texas BJJ is also a thriving and warm-hearted community, close-knit and caring. We take care of our own.
Such is the case now with tragedy having hit Adeildo Jose Junior Show, a local instructor out of San Antonio who came to Texas by way of Brazil just a few short years ago. Last weekend while competing, Junior suffered a blow to the head. The next day he collapsed. Junior is now at Methodist Hospital in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, having suffered a stroke. While having survived, he will now have to face a recovery that will involve intensive physical therapy just so he can regain his normal sense of movement. Not having insurance, he will now need all the help he can muster and the community has opened its arms to be able to offer what it can to him.
Here’s a few ways you can contribute to his recovery:
GoFundMe
Pinnacle BJJ’s Daniel Duron has set up a GoFundMe account with proceeds going directly to Junior Show’s medical and rehab expenses. With an initial goal of $15,000, the fund has already raised over $6,000 in one day thanks in large part to the Texas BJJ Community but it still has a long ways to go. And with medical costs being what they are, 15k probably won’t be enough to cover it all.

Medical Referrals
Due to Junior’s citizenship status he does not qualify for medicaid. It’s also difficult to find a hospital that will admit him for rehab so the only option may be to pay for private therapy. The current plan is to use whatever can be fundraised through GoFundMe for that purpose. It’s imperative that he begins that therapy immediately. To that end, those assisting Junior are looking for referrals for a certified speech therapist, occupational therapist and physical therapist that would be interested in taking on a cash pay private patient. Seminars and Open Mats
Other area schools from around the area have also mobilized to raise funds for Mr. Show.

One of our fellow Jiu Jitsu members needs help. Kids in Kimonos is February 7th at 11am and we have decided that we will donate 100% of the money raised for any patches sold to help Junior Show, a BJJ Blackbelt who suffered a stroke on January 23rd. Our Host Alliance Team Gacho, will have a donation jar to help Junior also.
(Alliance team Gacho will also host an open mat following KIK with donations being asked to be sent to Junior. )
