Woodlands MMA Instructor wins first professional title in exciting Legacy FC 49 main event

SHREVEPORT, LA – The Woodlands MMA is bringing back a championship after Legacy FC 49 this past weekend. The school’s MMA instructor Alex Morono took on fellow Texan Derrick Krantz in the night’s main event. Both guys had been surging prior to the bout with 7 straight wins between them. It was a highly anticipated fight and it delivered. Krantz came out very aggressively with strikes and takedowns but Morono was able to weather the storm, opening up with his own striking barrage that hurt Moreno before snatching the guillotine choke at the 4:29 bout to end the bout in the first round and win the welterweight title.

Alex Morono now has 5 straight wins to his credit, earning his first professional title in the organization he began his career with as an amateur way back in May 2010. Now 11-3 as a pro, the 25 year old Alex mentioned his willingness to take on all comers as a true champion but did express a desire to do what many Legacy champions including Holly Holm have done in the past, test his mettle in the UFC. Considering his pedigree, title, skill and age, it only seems to be a matter of time at this point.

Andrea “KGB” Lee earns Legacy Women’s Flyweight Title; Best of the rest

Bossier City resident Andrea Lee had the most dominant performance of the evening with her flawless victory over Ariel Beck to earn the Legacy flyweight title. The Karate Mafia’s resident WMMA pro threw every submission in the book at her opponent before forcing the submission the third round of the title bout. It was so convincing that you could almost see AXS TV commentator Pat Militech cringing through the TV at various moments throughout the bout, including round one when Lee had Beck in a brutal neck crank that saw her chin touch her chest. With the victory, Lee now moves to 4-1, winning her straight bout in the process.

Other highlights from Legacy FC 49 saw Matt Schnell defeat Texas’ Jonathan Martinez by disqualification after an illegal knee in the second round of what was shaping up to be a ‘fight of the night’ type of affair.

A pair of Texans also got a pair of second round TKO victories on the main card with Team 515’s Kevin Aguilar defeating David Bosnick and Next Generation’s Cody Walker beating Kalvin Hackney.

Houston’s Stephanie Alba completed the winner’s circle on the televised card with her unanimous decision victory over Andy Nguyen.
