Legacy Amateur Series 19 held in honor of slain police officers

HOUSTON, TX – Legacy Promotions was quietly back with another amateur MMA show last weekend. Held at the Houston Arena Theatre on Sept. 19th, Legacy Amateur Series 19 featured fresh young talent from around the area for the most part with plenty of fighters making their MMA debuts. The show was also a tribute to law enforcement with part of the proceeds going to the two children of slain Houston police officer Richard Martin who was killed in the line of duty this past May.

With recent tragedies including the death of Martin and also fellow officer Darren Goforth fresh on everyone’s minds, Legacy co-ownerAndrea Maynard and crew wanted to show support for LEO’s everywhere with this show. Above and beyond a tribute that aired during the show, they also donated 500 tickets to HPD Officers Union and the Harris County Deputies Organization as a thank you for the sacrifices officers make to do their sworn duty.

Now as for the fights themselves at Legacy Amateur Series 19, the show was highlighted by finishes as the eager young fighters sought to establish themselves. 6 out of 8 fights on the night ended in submissions and the two that did not were closely fought and resulted in split decisions.

With so many finishes it’s hard to single out individual competitors and pick out individual highlights but Fernando Vega did impress with did impress with his quick RNC victory over Sheldon Groves. Likewise, Ricky Rivas was relentless in going for his own submissions before finally hitting the armbar. Derrick Ageday also impressed with his grappling before landing the TKO and finally, the main event fight betweenZach Henson and Casey Jones was a competitive slugfest befitting the final fight of the night.
