PCG: Cowboys Extreme Cage Fighting 21 – Preview and Predictions

Premiere Combat Group presents a trio of title matches March 14th in San Antonio

 

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Trevor Bird and the Premiere Combat Group team have put together one hell of a card for fight fans in San Antonio. Premiere Combat Group returns to San Antonio at Cowboy’s Dance Hall on March 14th, 2015 to present Cowboys Extreme Cage Fighting 21. The card features 12 action packed fights. San Antonio fight fans will get to see two fighters capture their first amateur championship title as well as a title defense from Peter Caballero against Oswald Sanchez in the main event.

 

PCG: Cowboys Extreme Cage Fighting 21 – Preview and Predictions

 

145 lbs.: Peter Caballero (7-1) vs. Oswald Sanchez (4-3) *TITLE

With a highlight reel KO via knee over Joaquin Sanchez, Oswald Sanchez earned himself a title fight against current PCG featherweight champion Peter Caballero. Both fighters have a good number of fights in their amateur career; however, Sanchez has been fighting since 2008. After a lengthy break he returned in 2013 and has posted a 2-1 record since. Caballero was last seen in action at Rocks Xtreme MMA Fight Night IX successfully defending his separate featherweight title against Ty Ashcraft. Caballero and Sanchez will spend quite a bit time feeling each other out and I anticipate the winner of this fight will be the fighter who does the most in the championship rounds.

PREDICTIONS:

 

125 lbs.: Leroy Montoya (3-0) vs. David Waters (5-4) *TITLE

Leroy “Texas Made” Montoya will be fighting in his first title fight as an amateur against David “Rapid” Waters for the vacant PCG flyweight championship. Montoya has posted an impressive 3-0 record most recently defeating Kevin Morin by unanimous decision at Legacy Amateur Series 17. This will be Waters’ tenth amateur fight and second title fight. Seven of Waters’ fights have gone to judge’s decision; I see this one going the same route with Montoya winning by executing with his standup and wrestling.

PREDICTIONS:

 

135 lbs.: Corey Lewellyn (3-0) vs. David Miramontes (3-0) *TITLE

Corey Lewellyn versus David Miramontes for the vacant PCG bantamweight championship will be Fight of the Night. Miramontes is an undefeated explosive fiery fighter that has fought for PCG exclusively and it has earned him his first title shot. Lewellyn is a smart fighter that executes his game plan each fight which has earned him an undefeated record and his first title as well. Both fighters like to let their hands go and put on a show. I expect this to be an all-around great fight with Lewellyn rising as the victor in a close one.

PREDICTIONS:

 

135 lbs.: Julia Ottolino (1-0) vs. Dominique Gonzales (2-1)

Both of these fighters are strong dominant fighters; however, Julia Ottolino has proven she is on a separate level than most amateur fighters. The Chicago-native dismantled Sarah Boyd by TKO in her debut fight and has been heavily active on the BJJ circuit amongst Texas. Gonzales isn’t to be counted out though. This will be Gonzales’ fourth fight after posting a 2-1 record only losing to current PCG women’s bantamweight champion Katherine Roy. Gonzales should look to bring the same amount of pressure and intensity that Ottolino will bring early to have a chance in this one.

PREDICTIONS:

 

145 lbs.: Jonah Gomez (3-3) vs. Jason Laubach-Lents (2-3)

Both fighters last fought in September and it so happened to be against one another. Jonah Gomez and Jason Laubach-Lents will square up for the second time. Their first bout against each other ended in a first-round KO win for Laubach-Lents. As Gomez set up a triangle submission, Laubach-Lents viciously slammed Gomez down to the mat stunning him. Laubach-Lents quickly jumped on top and finished Gomez with some hard punches. I believe Gomez bounces back in this one and evens the score by the same submission he almost had in their first fight.

PREDICTIONS:

 

135 lbs.: Kaleb Petereit (1-1) vs. Carlos Cerna (1-1)

This bantamweight bout brings two fighters anxious to build their record above .500. After a disappointing decision loss against David Miramontes, which saw Miramontes gain a title shot from it, Kaleb Petereit is looking to bounce back against Carlos Cerna. Cerna recently earned his first victory in a unanimous decision win over Keith Parsons. Cerna is a tough, gritty, wear-you-out type of fighter, but I see Kaleb Petereit utilizing his reach and standup skill to keep Cerna at a distance and take this all three rounds.

PREDICTIONS:

 

155 lbs.: Zachary Balderas (1-1) vs. Anthony Ivy (2-0)

After finding out his last fight against Matt Ramirez was cancelled the week of fight week, Anthony Ivy has been a very upset and angry fighter with intentions of fighting for a title or going pro. The fighter standing across from him in the cage on March 14th will be Zachary Balderas. Balderas has not fought inside the cage for three years. He has a mighty task in front of him and Ivy will definitely be waiting to welcome Balderas back to the cage.

PREDICTIONS:

 

185 lbs.: Luis Carter Jr. (2-1) vs. Daniel Owens (1-3)

Despite a 1-3 record, Daniel Owens has fought against some top level amateur talent in former PCG middleweight champion Chad Box and Angelo Gutierrez. He faces “The Great Dane” Luis Carter Jr. at PCG 21. The 20-year army veteran, Carter, has had a successful amateur career so far only losing once by split decision. This fight should continue in Carter’s favor and improve his record to 3-1.
