LFC 38 Preview: Eli Tamez looking to stay undefeated en route to UFC

Undefeated at 8-0, “Tomahawk” Tamez hoping to push into the next level with dominant victory at Legacy FC 38

DALLAS, TX – With an impressive undefeated record, a marketable look and a solid team behind him it seems like Eli “Tomahawk” Tamez is on the cusp of something big. But in order to fulfill his dreams, he’ll have to push past Saul Elizondo at Friday, February 13th at Legacy Fighting Championship 38. For Eli, this is another step in his preparation for the next level. He’s been really patient since turning pro in January 2011 and with even more patience and preparation, the results (and the future) will take care of themselves.

“I’ve been really blessed in my career,” says Eli. Not only does he work with one of Texas’ top coaches in Sayif Saud of Octagon MMA, but he also works with really high level teammates, like Sean Spencer and Matt Hobar, both UFC fighters who’ve also pushed their way up the ranks in the same manner as Tamez is trying to do – through the gauntlet at Legacy FC.

“I always love fighting for Legacy! I love Mick and Andrea (Maynard). They are truly amazing people who really care about their fighters.”

“I’m just trying to keep improving. I continue to get better in every aspect of the game and push my body to new limits. Every fight you can expect a new Fighter. My mindset is always 100% focused on the fight in front of me and remaining undefeated. (At Octagon MMA) …we have a solid group of 125-145 lbs. fighters and we are all constantly getting better and we continue to push each other and stay grinding. All of our guys are next level material and all can compete in the UFC.”

As for the fighter in front of him, Saul Elizondo is certainly not someone Eli is looking beyond. That’s not how he got to 8-0. And that’s not how he’s going to get to 9-0 and the UFC. Tamez is very respectful of the task at hand.

“I’ve seen a lot of Saul’s fights. He has a ton of footage online and anytime I’ve seen him fight I’ve recorded it because I knew one day we’d meet. He’s a great opponent. He’s not afraid for the fight to go anywhere and he’s really tough. Bad thing for him is I think that I’m better everywhere the fight may go. I do have a prediction for the fight. I don’t want to give it away but I’m constantly replaying the same outcome in my mind. And it ends with me remaining undefeated. Then after this fight I want to go to the UFC. It’s my time and that’s what I want to look forward to then. After I take care of business at Legacy FC 38.”
