From humble beginnings, “The Black Beast” now has his sights set on pursuing the heavyweight championship of the world

HOUSTON, TX – From humble beginnings as a former football player and tow truck driver, 29 year old Derrick Lewis (11-3) has already carved a name for himself in the sport of MMA. Ever since he debuted regionally with a TKO over Nick Mitchell in 2010, Lewis has developed a reputation for being a serious hitter, one of the hardest punching heavyweights in the world actually. He parlayed a Legacy FC title win and upset over highly-touted Jared Rosholt into a UFC contract and is currently 2-1 in the promotion with many more goals ahead.

TXMMA recently caught up with Derrick Lewis to talk about his beginnings in MMA, what it’s like training at 4OZ Fight Club in Houston, his mindset heading into the cage and what some of his future plans are as far as what he wants to accomplish over the next two years.
