Fabian Galavez impressive in main event title win; Jacob Silva wins another flyweight title and dedicates fight to Holt Griffith

GALVESTON, TX, August 2, 2014 – Premier MMA action was back at the Galveston Island Convention Center this past Friday night to ring in the month of August. For this event, SCC 8, the Superior Combative Championships put out 12 fights including two title fights. As usual there was a myriad of exciting action with only two fights going the distance.

The event was highlighted by the performances of the winning fighters in the main and co-main events:

In the main event of the evening ACS representative and area fan favorite Fabian Galavez earned his first MMA title by beating previously undefeated Dominique Wiltz. Overwhelming in his physicality, Fabian was all over his opponent from the start of the bout, not giving him any space while aggressively working for the takedown. From there he worked his ground and pound to achieve the second round finish.

Next up in the co-man event, Jacob Silva made his return to the cage with a quick first round win over Daniel Turner for the SCC flyweight title. The fight was over in a blur with Silva taking his opponent’s back after a brief scramble following an armbar attempt by Turner. With this win, Silva now picks up his fourth title as an amateur and seems to be getting closer to turning pro pending the blessing of his coach Rudy Silva and his upcoming bout at Cage Combat vs. Mike Deleon.

There were numerous other quick finishes on the card with strong performances put on by many of the night’s winners. This included heavyweights Jordan Zendejas and Casey Malik who displayed an exceptional pace for big men in their heavyweight bout. Too many other solid performance with finishes to narrow it down two much for one or other but two of the more memorable ones included debut fighter Craig Grove obliterating his opponent Aristus Woodard just 23 seconds into their bout and Kesler Jones who needed just 23 seconds of fight time and 3 total times training in the gym to knock off 4OZ fighter Tony Nguyen.
