Carlos Diego Ferreira featured on UFC 177 main card; Richard Odoms set for first UFC bout in the prelims

July 29, 2014 – Two Texas representatives are now confirmed for inclusion for the UFC 177: Dillashaw vs. Barao II fight card, scheduled for August 30th in Sacramento, CA. UFC 177 features bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw defending his title vs. former title holder Renan Barao in a much-awaited rematch. Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson also takes on Chris Cariaso in defense of his belt in the co-main event of the evening. Joining them on the card from the lone star state will be Carlos Diego Ferreira and Richard Odoms.

A 29 year old fighting out of the Rio Grande Valley by way of Manaus, Brazil, Carlos Diego Ferreira debuted in the UFC this past June, defeating former TUF Colton Smith with a ‘Performance of the Night’ effort at UFC Fight Night – Swanson vs. Stephens. The BJJ black belt wasted no time in that bout, taking Smith down quickly before securing the fight ending rear-naked choke. He’ll now enter UFC 177 with an unblemished MMA record at 10-0. This time Ferreira another veteran in 8-fight UFC vet Ramsey Nijem (8-4). A cast member on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Lesnar vs. Team dos Santos, Ramsey was last seen viciously defeating standout grappler Beneil Dariush by first round knockout this past April. It could be the toughest challenge yet for the Texas rep CDF but one that would certainly elevate him up the rankings given the visibility of this bout on the UFC 177 main card.

As for the other Texas rep, San Antonio’s Richard Odoms (8-1) should be ready to go in his UFC debut. A veteran of the Legacy Fighting Championship, “The Black Eagle” is coming off a win against D.J. Linderman in his last bout almost a year ago. He’ll be making his UFC debut against Russian Ruslan Magomedov on the preliminary portion of the UFC 177 card scheduled for UFC Fight Pass. Richard Odoms heads into this bout with only one career loss (vs. rising UFC heavyweight Jared Rosholt) so far in his career. He’ll be facing a tough opponent in Magomedov, another tough wrestler who has won seven straight heading into this bout. Still, Odoms has faced stiff odds before and should be no doubt be motivated heading into this one.

As for the rest of UFC 177, the developing fight card features a bevy of additional rising talent including another veteran of the Texas fight scene, oft-criticized US Olympian Henry Cejudo.
