Once drawn to fighting because of a woman, Patrick Hutton continues to fight for himself; Takes on Trevin Giles at Legacy FC 31

HOUSTON, TX, June 7, 2014 – Athletes are measured by various criteria.  Physical acumen, skill, accuracy, strategy, there is a whole world of success and failure for every athlete to explore.  Some athletes stick out because of their prevailing character and spirit -their heart.  These fighters keep coming back no matter what the results of their prior fight.  Competitors like these are true warriors and are special, particularly in the world of MMA because of their grit, toughness and embodiment of budo; the fighter spirit.

Back in December of 2011 TXMMA readers had the opportunity to learn about the heavy hitting, middleweight fighter with a heart of gold, Patrick Hutton.  He shared his experiences as an MMA fighter and as a special education teacher, and fight fans had an opportunity to see one of the finest people in the sport. Hutton, got into MMA as a result of a romantic relationship. “A woman; true story my x fiancé wanted a ring and I wanted to buy a big nice one. [I] knew I could make [money] fighting and I hustled; between purse, sponsors, ticket sales, shirt sales I made about 10 grand and the rest is history. We all do crazy things to please the ones we love.” No longer in it for the love of a woman, Hutton has stuck with MMA out of a different kind of love, love of the sport.

At Legacy Fighting Championships 31 MMA fans will get to see Hutton enter the cage against a much younger Trevin Giles. TXMMA had a chance to speak with Hutton and get some of his thoughts.  “Honestly the scariest thing about a fight is the unknown of what’s gonna happen, as long as I perform to the best of my ability I will find a way to win. But as long as I win and neither one of us gets seriously injured I’m happy.”  At this point Hutton is coming off of two consecutive decision losses but that is not slowing him down at all.  “Patience is a good thing, but I think just being in sports and competing my whole life has given me great work ethic to train hard and stay dedicated to training for a fight which you have to be because this is by far the hardest sport to train for so it’s never easy.”  Hutton has experienced his fair share of difficulty in the cage starting in 2010 experiencing more loss than victory, but the reality is that Hutton is in the game for different reasons than most “, might not always win but I’m trying.”  Patrick Hutton is one of the strongest men in MMA in his resolve to continue competing in the sport he loves.

At this point in Hutton’s life it seems he realizes how many unknowns exist in the realm of fighting, when asked about his game plan against his upcoming opponent he told us “He’s new as a pro, but he had pretty good amateur career and comes from a good team and is a big young strong man. My strategy is just to fight my fight and I have prepared myself to be able to fight anywhere.”  This strategy again reflects the true nature of Hutton, a fighter at heart, ready to face his opponent wherever the fight goes without reservation.

Hutton’s opponent at Legacy FC 31 is 18 years younger and has only suffered one loss in his amateur career.  Hutton will be his second fight in his pro career.  Hutton’s hopes are to “go out and fight smart, stop take downs land my punches and strikes and bring it.”  Hutton is the physically smaller fighter and when asked about that his response was “my striking boxing and cardio are my strengths… It will help to my advantage because of my speed and powerful I’m always a dangerous opponent for anyone”.

“I just want to thank everyone who support me, help me, give me a chance to be apart of this great sport! Legacy, you and the guys at TXMMA for always doing great articles on me, my teammates and anyone or gym that has helped me in mma, my sponsors, family, friends, George Foreman, Jason Frank, Matt Warner, Jim Jones, Darren McCall, Mick Maynard and Collin Cantrell for always making me feel like legacy family, and a special shout out to my biggest fans Daphne and Lia Vasquez, of course anyone I left out and most importantly Jesus!”

Patrick Hutton is a powerhouse of human strength and heart.  His MMA career has been tumultuous but he keeps at it and keeps coming back fight after fight.  The Texas MMA community can always use more role models for young fighters, that shows everyone the true meaning of being a warrior.
