After two-year layoff, Evert Gutierrez seeks to come back with a big win in DFW; Takes on Evan Thompson Oct. 11th at LFC 24

HOUSTON, TX, October 1, 2013 – It has been little quite some time since Bayou City resident Evert Gutierrez has been in action. Once considered one of the top prospects coming out of the city as a former Legacy Amateur Series welterweight champion, the 28 year old fell out of the scene after a loss to another up-and-comer in Alex Morono at Legacy FC 8 to chase some other real life goals. Now two years later and with the ever present chip on his shoulder gnawing at him, Evert is planning on coming back with a vengeance starting at Legacy Fighting Championship 24 in Dallas when he takes on hometown favorite Evan Thompson.

Based on his pre-fight comments, Evert and his opponent (the son of a martial arts instructor) have plenty in common headed into the fight.

“I am a lifelong martial artist born in the western hemisphere of the Planet named Earth,” says Evert. ‘I seek to test my skills in the purest form of combat known to homo-sapiens and I seek to become a champion in this life and in the sport of MMA. I fight for the challenge for the adrenaline rush and hopefully so I can inspire kids out there, to get them involved in a sport, so it helps them to accept the challenges that life throws at us. So they can build endurance because life a marathon, one that requires emotional, physical, and specially mental and spiritual endurance. I want to continue to teach and pass my knowledge to others hopefully helping and inspiring others to pursue their own goals, whatever they may be.”

As far as his own training, Gutierrez has split time amongst several gyms in the Houston area, working with some top pros and specialists like Kru Pong and Alexis Chavarria, who have both helped him hone his Thai boxing in preparation for an exciting striking match with Thompson. He’s also training with talented guys at facilities like Team Tooke and Gold Team so he’ll be prepared for anything (he is a BJJ brown belt also) but it’s the possibility of producing an exciting finish that really has him motivated to compete at LFC 24.

“In fighting I am always looking to finish my opponent via grappling or strikes, and that makes for exciting fights. I have been training hard as usual, I think it will be exciting, two polished strikers always makes for great and exciting fights. Victory shall be mine”

“Philippians 4:13. I and you can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
