Douglas Lima defeats Ben Saunders once again; Top prospect upset on Bellator 100 undercard

September 22, 2013 – Brazilian Douglas Lima (25-5, 7-1 Bellator) scored one of the top walk-off knockouts of the year with his head kick KO of Ben Saunders this past Friday night at Bellator 100.

The win earned him the title of season 8 welterweight champion, adding to his resume which already included a season 5 tournament win and a second finals victory over Saunders. He’ll now move on to once again challenge the only man ever to beat him in Bellator, current champion Ben Askren, as long as the Funky one’s current contract negotiations keep him in the org and defending sometime in the near future.

In other Bellator 100 results, War Machine (14-4) continued to impress with his second round technician submission over Vaughn Anderson to move on in the 170 lbs. tournament. Judo Olympian Rick Hawn likewise impressed with a decision over young prospect Herman Terrado while Ron Keslar and Brent Weedman joined them to move on after welterweight tournament’s opening round.

In other action, one of the promotion’s top prospects was TKO’d on the undercard in NCAA wrestling champion Bubba Jenkins (4-1). Coming in as a 17-to-1 favorite over unheralded local LaRue Burley, nobody expected Jenkins to lose but he did – succumbing to TKO in the third round of their lightweight matchup.
