Belts of Honorius throws successful encore event with Austin Championship

AUSTIN, TX, September 7, 2013 – It was yet another night of exciting Texas MMA action in Austin this past Saturday, September 7th with Belts of Honorius throwing their second event at Eastside Austin Elite. Nael Chavez premiered his promotion supporting the Enlightened Warriors youth MMA program this past July with Belts of Honorius 1 producing plenty of highlight finishes. He would have been hard-pressed to repeat the excitement of that first event this time around but the night’s fighters managed to pull it off. Every bout but two ended before reaching the judges’ scorecards and the ones that did both merited ‘fight of the night’ discussion.

River Warth earns first Texas win over Nicole Duffy

www.mikecalimbasphotography.comIn the main event Austin residents and local women’s MMA fighters River Warth and Nicole Duffy fought three rounds of back and forth action. Both fighters pressed the action at various points of the fight but in the end River Warth walked away with the unanimous decision victory. River was mostly successful when walking forward in this one. She spent more of the fight advancing and had Duffy pressed against the cage at crucial points in the second and third that likely awarded her valuable points on the judges’ cards. With this win River Warth now advances her amateur MMA record to 3-2 while Duffy drops to 1-3 overall.

Kevin Holland beats Terrance Moore for BOH Welterweight Title

www.mikecalimbasphotography.com20 year old Travis Lutter protégé Kevin Holland (4-0) proved himself to be a legit pro prospect with his impressive win over Terrance Moore to win the Belts of Honorius welterweight title. It was a fast-paced first round with Moore coming out aggressively in this one while Holland bided his time. Holland was in trouble early after Moore reversed position on the ground and took his back, securing a body triangle and threatening a rear naked choke. He defended well and the round continued on the feet with two breaks to the action due to some errant low blows by Holland before the round ended. Looking to come on strong in the second round, Kevin Holland advanced quickly and hit Moore with a vicious left jab-right overhand combo that put the West Texas out cold on the canvas and earn Holland the first title win of his amateur career while moving him to 4-0 overall.

Vela and Bronstrup put on fight of the night; Scott and Ottolino victorious

www.mikecalimbasphotography.comPaul Vela and Waylon Bronstrup put on the TXMMA Fight of the Night with their back-and-forth three round effort that had the crowd on its feet throughout the bout as these two gave it all they had in trying to knock each other out. Gutsy performances by both that Vela edged it out in this one. In other action Garrett Scott was successful after taking this fight on thirty minutes notice at weigh-ins to fill in for teammate for teammate Steve Cordell versus Matt Saenz. “The Deaf Grappler” made good on his nickname, quickly transitioning from to a mounted triangle before pounding out his opponent to move his record to 3-0 as an amateur. There were plenty of other great performances on the evening including Julia Ottolino debuting as an amateur on the women’s MMA scene with an impressive first round TKO over fellow debut fighter Sarah Boyd.
