Octagon MMA’s Sean Spencer picks up first UFC win over Yuri Villefort at UFC Fight Night 28

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, September 4, 2013 – Dallas area resident Sean Spencer (Octagon MMA) scored his biggest career success this afternoon in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Opening the UFC Fight Night 28 card held at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte on Facebook, Spencer would take on Yuri Villefort in a battle of two fighters stills searching for their first UFC win in their second fight with the organization. For Sean Spencer, he would also be moving down to his rightful weight class after debuting on short notice with a third round submission loss to middleweight Rafael Sapo Natal this past January.

As it turns out that the move to welterweight would allow Sean Spencer to finish with much better results at UFC Fight Night 28.

The bout was a close contest throughout all three rounds of this one with Sean Spencer showing fast hands, superior boxing, and a higher overall punch output while Villefort looked to time his shots while landing some pretty hard leg kicks throughout the bout. Neither fighter would try to take this one to the ground too much though Yuri did score one takedown early in the second round with Sean immediately bouncing back up to his feet.

In the end Spencer won the majority decision by scored of 30-27, 29-28, 28-29.
