Full night of fights; two new champions crowned at Legacy Amateur Series 13

HOUSTON, TX – With twelve fights total and two title fights at the top of the card Legacy Amateur Series 13 was expected to deliver plenty of storylines for the always drama-hungry Houston MMA crowd and that it did in the form of a very exciting evening this past Saturday night at the Houston Arena Theater.

Prior to the event TXMMA posted an article outlining the likeliest prospects to watch for LAS 13 and it couldn’t be said that we were off-base. All but one of the young fighter we mentioned won in emphatic fashion at Legacy Amateur Series 13 with the lone exception being in one of the title fights as Kolton Englund lost out to Omar Hillail after suffering a shoulder injury to his throwing shoulder – as in, he hurt it throwing a punch. Englund was likely winning on the judges’ cards up t that point of the lightweight title matchup but all that went nil with the strap changing hands and headed down to Gracie Barra Texas in Southeast Houston. It remains to be seen whether there will be a rematch between these two with Kolton’s previously stated intentions of turning pro but both of these prospects should have bright futures ahead whether they meet each other again or not.

Speaking of young prospects, another one proved himself to the tune of winning the Legacy Amateur Series bantamweight title with Leomana Martinez defeating his more seasoned opponent Mike Trinh, The Bushi Ban trained fighter isn’t even old enough to vote yet but is now 3-0. That is very impressive indeed. Stay tuned for more.

Northcutt takes out Street Fighter; Few more LAS 13 Highlights

Team Hoger’s Sage Northcutt moved his MMA record to 3-1 by virtue of his first round submission over street fighter turned Facebook troll Clarence Brown. Needing a late replacement to compete on the card, LAS matchmaker Collin Cantrell picked up the inexplicably notorious local street thug like the last dance at the dive bar five minutes from closing time, giving him his first shot at a sanctioned MMA bout in the process. From there the results were predictable with the bout ending by first round armbar and so it goes. The battle will assuredly move back from the cage to the keyboards soon and the drama-loving segment of the  Houston MMA community will be eating it right back up.

Just the way it is around here sometimes.

Moving on, another fighter who’s earned his stripes and all the attention he hasn’t gotten (he should be getting more) performed well at Legacy Amateur Series 13 and his name is  Adrian Yanez. All it took was one perfectly timed punch for the Saul Soliz trained protégé to move to 5-0 at the expense of Casey Jones. At this point he’s probably 3 fights or less from turning pro so look out for him in early 2014.

Likewise another tough prospect also moved to an impressive 5-0 record at welterweight with Trent Parker beating Daniel Fueling by virtue of a gruesome knee injury incurred during a first round takedown attempt. Still have to see more out of him to gauge his future but he’s looking great so far. Tough young fighter for sure.

Lots of other notable wins on Legacy Amateur Series 13 but just take a look at the pics and quick results below for the rest of the story.
