Austin area fighter looking forward to redemption; A chance to help those who need it in the Austin MMA community at Austin Championship

AUSTIN, TX, August 21, 2013 – River Warth (2-2) has a lot on her mind headed into her upcoming fight at the Austin Championship event scheduled for September 7th at Eastside Austin Elite. Although she’s focused on the task at hand, not all of it has to do with fighting.

River recently moved to Cedar Park (settling even more into the Austin community after moving there from Missouri), adopted a pit bull puppy, and is trying to get more involved with helping out in the nonprofit sector as well, specifically with helping make the new pantry for the Enlightened Warriors a reality along with helping the organization in general – up to and including fighting in the main event versus Nicole Duffy at the Austin Championship, an event set up to fund the group’s nonprofit projects.

River Warth vs. Nicole Duffy will headline the event but it’s all for a bigger cause – to help the underprivileged in Austin.

For River, that’s something she’ll happily fight for.

“I have not always been involved in nonprofit work but I am trying to get more involved with helping. It’s something that’s very important to me and helping with the MMA community, what could be a better fit? Everybody that knows me knows I have a pretty big heart. I believe helping another soul is the most rewarding thing you could ever do. (In MMA) I know how expensive it can be to get the training you need. I know how unprofitable it can be. I have seen fighters pay their last fifty dollars for training, when they need fuel for their bodies more. Why not let my profit in life help pick someone else up. I came from a different world than where I live now, it is very important to me to help someone who needs it and cannot help themselves.”

Belts of Honorius 1Specifically regarding this bout in reference to her last one (a loss), River is hoping for a better showing athletically as well.

“My last fight… (vs. Karen Kovach at Belts of Honorius) Not taking anything away from Karen and her win, but I was not me. I had a lot stuff going on, and did not deal with is correctly. It showed. I don’t know that person that got in the cage that night. I still feel no connection to the whole situation. This fight is very different. I feel very strong, aware and ready.”

“I know she is fearless, and she loves MMA,” she says about her opponent. “We live in the same town and cross-train with some of the same people. I know she’s good but I also know I’ll be ready. My fans know some of my struggles. And they know I am a fighter. I am bringing everything to this fight. I am even flying my mother in to watch this fight. She was in a bad car accident and was given a second chance at life and she is very important to me. I could not be prouder than having her in my corner! So I’m going into this one with all I have.”
