Mighty Mouse Defends Flyweight Crown For Second Time; Rory MacDonald Hits The Snooze Button On Jake Ellenberger
SEATTLE, WA, July 28, 2013 – UFC on FOX 8 took place this past Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington.
The main event of the UFC’s latest network TV offering featured flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson making his second title defense against would-be challenger John Moraga. This would be his second defense after beating John Dodson this past January and “Mighty Mouse” proved successful once again and notched his fourth win a row.
In the co-main event of the evening, upstart welterweights Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger had their much anticipated matchup fizzle out in terms of action but the Canadian (Rory) did pick up the win by virtue of outpointing the American with his jab. Neither fighter was really in much danger of getting finished in this one. Ellenberger just couldn’t get inside or open up opportunities while MacDonald was content with outclassing his dangerous opponent from the outside.
Elsewhere on the card, “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler continued his career resurgence in the UFC with a vicious knockout of fellow Strikeforce import Bobby Voelker while Liz Carmouche continued her own trek back up the ladder with a win over ATT prospect Jessica Andrade.
