Mission, TX High School Student Preparing for Career in Mixed Martial Arts

MISSION, TX, June 25, 2013 – At only 18 years of age, South Texas native Isaac Matamoris will be one of the younger contestants to step into the cage this Saturday night at Belts of Honorius in Austin. Put age aside though and “Ice” (as he is known to friends) has just as much desire as any fighter on the card and lofty goals to match.

“I got introduced to MMA at 14 years old when I joined Castros Fight Pit (Mission, TX) and fell in love with the sport. Right now I’m still in high school trying to get my education together first but I’m also looking to be a champion and start a career (MMA) also. I’ve done this since I was a kid and I’m only trying to get further and further every day. I’m looking for victories in every single fight that I’m taking. I have a long way ahead of me & I see this as only the beginning for me. I’m trying to chase my dreams.”

Matamoros will look to get his second win at Belts of Honorius when he takes on New Braunsfels-based 25 year old Kevin Morin.

Accordingly to Isaac, this is a fight he’s really looking forward to.

“I’m training for war and I’m going to beat this guy because there’s no way he wants this more than I do. Training has never been better for me and I feel excellent coming into this fight. I want my opponent to know I hope he’s ready because this is everything I want and everything I train for. I’m coming for that victory as if it’s a title shot.”

Adding to his thoughts on the fight, “Ice” expects a stand-up war fans can really enjoy.

“I heard he’s more a standup fighter and that’s great because I love to stand and go toe-to-toe. I’m comfortable with my stand up going against anybody and I’ve shown that clearly in all my fights. I don’t think I have to worry about anything with this guy, I know what I train for and what I’m going to bring. I hope he’s ready for a fight. I see the fight playing out every way I want it to. I see myself controlling the whole fight having my opponent wherever I want him to be. Anything can happen but expect one heck of a show and a bloody match. Kevin better keep his hands up and prepare for the fight of his life.”
