SAN ANTONIO, TX, January 28, 2013 – It’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend in the Alamo City with Legacy Fighting Championship 17 rolling into Cowboys Dance Hall this Friday night for their very first pro event in Central Texas. The show features a main event pitting SA resident Pete Spratt against Dan Hornbuckle in a battle of savvy veteran fighters but the event will look to showcase up-and-coming young talent as well.
One such fighter is Austin Muay Thai-trained 29 year Cameron Martin. A middleweight, he scored his first pro win at Dominion Warrior Evolution this past April, choking Jesse Riley out with a guillotine choke less than a minute into their bout. He’ll now look to go 2-0 as a pro when he takes on Legacy Fighting Championship 17 opponent Marco Hernandez in one of the early bouts of the night.
Despite the fact that it’s only his second bout and first in San Antonio as a pro, he’s no stranger to Cowboys Dance Hall. He’s already fought there four times as an amateur with Premier Combat Group’s Cowboys Extreme Cagefighting (CEC) promotion.
“I’m very pumped to on this first Legacy card at Cowboys,” he told TXMMA. “This event will be action-packed and I think the fans better not blink from the first fight to the last. This is also my home turf where I was a CEC light heavyweight champion so I want to make sure I perform here.”
In speaking about his preparations Martin told us that he focuses on developing his skills on a day-to-day basis and that’s been the same with preparing for this bout.
“I am a student of the sport. I got into MMA because I missed the competition along with the work. The drive is there to succeed and be great. I am part of Team AMT. Austin Muay Thai. Elton Wells is my striking coach and Tim Kennedy is our team captain. I also train at John’s Gym under Rodrigo Cabral for my ground. I know Marco Hernandez out of Seguin MMA will be a game opponent so I’ve been taking this fight very seriously. I’ll be ready for wherever this fight goes. I look for the finish every single time I step in to the cage and all I see is my hand raised at the end.”
