In the lead up to Legacy FC 15 we covered the career of Robert Drysdale (5-0) pretty extensively and had an in-depth conversation with him as well about his plans for Chris Reed (4-2).
Robert Drysdale came to Houston and handled his business as all expected him to. Justifying the betting lines that made him overwhelming odds on favorite to win against Chris ‘Celtic Tiger’ Reed. At 5-0 the grappling juggernaut has five consecutive first round submission victories. The actual fight was very similar to all of Drysdale’s other matches; Reed set his feet in front of Drysdale for too long and Drysdale saw the opening for the takedown…you all know the rest.
The only surprise the main event brought came the day before at the weigh-ins when Drysdale could not meet the 205.5lb weight limit.
We caught up with Robert immediately after the fight for a very brief Q&A, this is what he told us:
Legacy FC 15 Post-Fight Interview: Robert Drysdale
It went well, I’m glad I got the win, but I wanted to stand and bang with him a little more. I was ready to show my stand-up, James McSweeney is a K-1 level guy who cornered me and helped me prepare for the fight, but when he [Chris Reed] came at me like he did he left himself open for the shot, I capitalized and took him down so I didn’t have a chance to show how my striking has progressed.
Were you ever in danger during the fight? He came out aggressive and it seemed as if he connected when you dropped for the takedown.
No, thankfully I was never in any real danger. I had the right distance and he did not connect when I took him down, he tried to land a strike as I dropped to my knees, but didn’t [connect with it].
You came in at 210.5lbs, when we did your pre-fight interview last week you were at 222lbs, can you tell us what happened with your weight cut?
Any idea what’s next for you and is there anything else you would like to tell our readers and your fans?
I got two fights left with Legacy, it’s up to them who I’m fighting next. I wanna thank my sponsor Hayabusa and thank you to the fans, follow me @Robert_Drysdale.
