Trio of title fights highlight ‘EFC 3: Domination’ card in DFW this Saturday

Derrick “D-Rock” Krantz

PLANO, TX, November 16, 2012 – This is a great weekend for mixed martial arts action all around Texas.

While the Houston area is all abuzz with the latest edition of the Legacy Fighting Championship tonight, the Central Texas region is also eagerly awaiting another exciting professional event of their own this Saturday night when the Element Fighting Championship (EFC) with their latest card at the Plano Convention Center, entitled EFC 3 – “Domination.”

Looking at the lineup promoter Justin Miller and crew have put together, what we see is what should be their most significant card yet by far with three title fights on the evening.

In the main even of the night, Longview’s Derrick Krantz (13-6) travels to the DFW area to take on longtime veteran Marcus “Wrecking Ball Hicks (11-3) for the EFC lightweight title. Though he’s fought sparingly since his stint in the WEC ended back in 2009, Marcus is coming into this fight with a two-fight win streak intact – most recently beating East Texas Josh Lee by submission at EFC 1 this past January. Meanwhile D-Rock will be looking to bring his own win streak up to two with his last win being a dominant submission victory over Brandon Farran back at Legacy FC 14 this past September.

Brandon Farran

Speaking of Brandon Farran (8-5), he’s involved in this card as well in the co-main event of the evening where he takes on Jason House (7-5) for the EFC welterweight belt. Looking at their experience, both these guys seem to have had an almost identical road to the belt with most of their combined wins coming by way of TKO or submission. Jason seems to have the experience advantage though as he’s fought all over the place since beginning his career way back in the early days of Texas MMA back in 2001. His opponent doesn’t have nearly as much time in the game but has made the most of his own since he entered the professional ranks back in 2007 so look for him to try and show that and prove himself a worthy adversary when these two step into the cage this Saturday.

Last up in title action in the featherweight division is Chris Jones, otherwise known to his fans as “Lionheart.” As far as records go, the 31 year old out of Team Mohler’s gym may be the most blue chip prospect on this card with 6 wins in a row on the way to this championship bout, including a win over Steven Peterson at Bellator 62 in his last appearance this past March. He’ll be taking on Travis Lutter-trained Javier Obrigon – a fighter looking to make his own name known after winning two fights in a row in order to get here.

As for the rest of the card, it’s littered with some other young fighters looking to one day contend for titles themselves. Check out the quick card below and look out for fight night results here on TXMMA.com when this event comes to conclusion later this weekend.
