Premier Fight Series 2 Results and Highlights from Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, TX, September 24, 2012 – There was some mixed martial arts action going on in the DFW Metroplex this past weekend with Premier Fight Series holding their second event at La Grave Stadium.

Outdoor shows can be a risky proposition considering the unpredictable nature of the weather (especially here in Texas) but the risk seemed to have paid off at least this time around as the event went off without any complications on that front.

As far as the fights, Premier Fight Series 2 did have to deal with losing their planned main event pitting undefeated prospect Chas Skelly versus Texas veteran Nick Gonzalez due to missed weight by Gonzalez but the rest of the event went off without a hitch with seven total fights completed on the night.

Check out the results below then we’ll talk about the fights in further detail.

Top Highlights, Thoughts, and Opinions

Team Takedown’s Chris Feist stays undefeated with fifth win

Chris Feist

Prior to 28 year old Chris Feist has been methodically building on his record since debuting as a pro for XKO in October 2010. This past Saturday night might have offered him his toughest challenge yet in West Texas vet Micah Franks (3-1). It was a test he passed with flying colors by virtue of a second round TKO in a bout that was not completely devoid of tough moments. Franks proved game but Feist’s grappling and ability to advance to a dominant position proved too much for him in the end. Now with five wins on his record, Feist should expect an even bigger test next time around. He’s due for it.

Paige VanZant moves to 2-0 as a pro; 2-0 vs. Texas fighters

Paige VanZant (with Taylor Stratford)

Texas just can’t seem to get enough of Las Vegas resident Paige VanZant. Or rather, it’s the other way around or both.

Fighting for the second time as a pro and once more on short notice, Paige flew down to Fort Worth to take on local native Amber Stautzenberger – who happened to be making her own pro debut this past Saturday night.

Weigh-In photo buzz notwithstanding, these two pretty came to fight and fight they did for three close rounds of action. In the end it looks like VanZant’s recent move to Vegas to train full-time with House of Ryu paid off as she was able to control the pace of the bout and finish stronger to take the decision win.

Now 2-0, will we be seeing Paige in Texas again? Time only knows but the fans would probably welcome her back, if for nothing else than for Texas to try to get those wins back in our column from this gracious and talented young lady.

As for Amber Stautzenberger, rest assured she won’t be dwelling on the dropped decision herself as she already has her next bout lined up for Legacy Fighting Championship 15 in Allen, TX this December against non-other than Phalanx MMA’s Lisa Marie Lamb.

That should prove to be another good one to help bring attention to Women’s MMA as these ladies continue to show why they’re worthy of attention with exciting performances in the cage.

The Best of the Rest

Tony Tipton

Genesis BJJ Instructor Tony Tipton was able to take his MMA record to 2-0 with a dominating decision over a resilient Jose Cabral in their bout. Tipton previously debuted at STFC 21 with another decision over Fabian Saldivar earlier this summer and is now managed by Matt Rossini over at Imperial MGMT so look for him to try to make even more noise in the near future.

Speaking of Imperial, Rossini’s reps went undefeated on the night with Kashif Solarin and Jabari Shakur also winning impressively in their bouts over Heron Saucedo and Jeremy McCombs respectively.

Meanwhile, two other fighters in Eliazar Rodriguez and Zack Board put another one in the win column as well with Eliazar scoring the unanimous decision over Sidney Crawley while Board picked up the first round victory and our TXMMA KO/TKO of the Night award with his impressive put-down of Arturo Arellano in their bout.

Look for Premier Series to come with another installment (PFS 3) this coming November.
