2012 Europa Torque Tour – Complete tournament recap with 30+ match videos

DALLAS, TX, August 21, 2012 – As most everyone in the Texas BJJ Community should know by now, the 2012 Europa Torque Tour tournament happened in Dallas this past weekend as part of Scott Templeton’s Europa Sports and Get Fit Expo at the Dallas Convention Center.

As it’s been in years past (2011 TXMMA tournament of the year), the show was once again a huge success and drew 757 competitors overall for a day of competitive grappling.

There was also more than pride and a medal on the line in this one as F2W/WGC gave away $10,000 in cash prizes across a large cross-section of divisions featuring teens, women, and men in both the GI and No-GI brackets.

In the overall team results, Alvarez BJJ came in head and shoulders above the rest with 167 total points to earn 1st place. Peak Performance and Paragon tied for 2nd place with 84 total points while Gracie Barra came in at 4th with 78 points.

Carlos Diego Ferreira, men’s absolute champion.

For their efforts, they earned $1500, $1000, and $500 respectively.

As for individual action, there were plenty of heated matches and competitive finals with cash money on the line there as well.

Full results for all divisions can be found here but let’s go over some of the highlights of the day.

In the men’s No-GI absolutes, Brandon Mullins (Gracie Barra), Cooper Cardinale (Alvarez BJJ), and Carlos Diego Ferreira (Team Ferreira), and Travis Hull (Peak Performance) all earned first place and $500 each for their troubles.

The finals matchup at -145 lbs. in particular was a very close one with the result coming down to a disputed judges’ decision between Mullins and Nova Uniao representative Luan Carvalho.

Meanwhile in the GI, Ferreira repeated his first place finish at black belt while DDR’s Marcos Silva took it at brown belt. A pair of Rilion Gracie representatives split it at purple with Vincent Rivera and Pedro Migliano splitting the prize money while Jared Dopp (Lovato) and Alec Williams (Show Me) took it at blue and white belt respectively.

Tammy Griego, women’s absolute champion.

As for the women’s GI and No-GI absolute divisions, Gracie Barra’s Tammy Griego hit the dual first place jackpot to take home the prize money with Danielle Alvarez (Alvarez), Ashley Elliott (Armour House), and Colorado’s Cat Zingano (Zingano BJJ) coming up right behind her in the standings.

Last but not least, it was a competitive day of action for the teens as well with both the GI and No-GI prize money as hotly contested as any other on the day. Gracie Barra Texas rep Andy Cordova took it home in the GI while Genesis rep Mark Delarosa took it in the No-GI with both facing some tough competition from the rest of the field.

Fight to Win MMA has full results for all divisions here so make sure to check it out for the rest of the day’s divisional action.
