HOUSTON, TX, August 20, 2012 – When Colin Wright steps into the cage this Saturday, August 25th at Legacy Amateur Series 9, it will mark almost one year to the date since his last cage appearance and not a moment too soon.

A lot has happened in the last year with fighters looking to make a name for themselves and establish their status as future prospects. With that, it’s quite possible that some may have forgotten a bit of what Wright is capable of but he’s looking to refresh their memories when he takes on Tony Orozco Jr. for the second time at the Houston Arena Theater.

Before we talk about that fight, let’s put a refresher on what Colin Wright has accomplished so far.

A 23 year old bantamweight out of Paradigm Training Center, Colin debuted across state lines in Louisiana little over years ago, winning in under a minute against a guy he was probably supposed to lose to.

“I was hooked immediately,” he says. “Fighting was just another thing to try but that first fight gave me a huge amount of confidence that has helped me go 6-0 with all finishes and two titles so far. As a fighter I am aggressive and unrelenting. I’m also very well rounded and am constantly working to improve in all disciplines. It’s been killing me not having been able to fight all this time.”

A sometimes solitary person who once lived in the woods in Utah for about 4 months, Colin has spent much of his time out due to injury focusing on his artwork (he’s an artist along with fighter) and developing himself but he also poised to resume his MMA career.

Oddly enough, he’ll do so against the very last person he fought in Silverback’s Tony Orozco Jr.

“I feel good about the match up. Even though I’ve already fought and beat him it’s still an exciting fight and he’s a good opponent. I still like Tony and have no issues with him personally.”

Depending on how this fight goes, Colin may have his eye on turning to the pro ranks so this will definitely be a pivotal fight back for him, and he’s taken his training camp to heart in preparation for a successful comeback.

“As with any fight and any opponent I’ve taken preparations very seriously. I work wrestling with All-American Grant Johnson, BJJ with coach Igor Santos, MMA striking with coach Geon Cho, and also work with the man responsible for bringing it all together in coach Mike Altman. I also work my boxing with Aaron Navarro at Hank’s Gym also. Training has been amazing. We’ve really started to refined our training methods and have made unbelievable advancements. I’ve always known I could win but I had to prove it to myself. Now I want to prove it again.”

I can see this fight going a million different ways but they all have the same result. I know Tony is going to bring it so it should be a good fight.”

I just want to thank all of my family and friends at Paradigm and to everyone that helped me get ready. Thanks to all my coaches, teammates, training partners, and of course my sponsors: Brian Benoit at Emmanuel Salon, Adam and Israel of Armbar SubmissionGear, Scott lanham Herbal, and my buddy Mike H. Also a big shout out to my physical therapist Chester Tsai for keeping me healthy for this fight and of course thanks to all the fans for their support.”
