Team Lutter’s Bobby Alexander poised to make an impact in MMA debut; Fights Kane Gutierrez at CEC this Saturday

FORT WORTH, TX, August 2, 2012 – PCG comes back with their latest Cowboys Extreme Fighting show at San Antonio’s Cowboys Dance Hall this coming Saturday. As we mentioned in our event preview, the show is headlined by a welterweight title bout featuring Austin’s Lester Clark (3-3) taking on Jared Perez (4-2) of Corpus Christi.

We also mentioned a young fellow by the name of Bobby Alexander, another welterweight who will be debuting in MMA for the first time but one that may just have the promise to make his own waves in the division with due time.

An apprentice instructor and BJJ blue belt under UFC veteran Travis Lutter at his Team Lutter Academy in Fort Worth, Bobby began his MMA journey as a blank slate, willing to get molded into a fighter without any preconceived notions about what it took to become one.

“I had no training before hand; no karate as a kid, no wrestling in high school, nothing like that before coming to train here,” he says.

The day he came to Team Lutter was the day he decided to be nothing but a sponge, willing to do whatever it took to get better.

“Me and him (Lutter) are a lot alike on and off the mat. Almost everything I’ve learned has been directly from him. My favorite memory so far in this sport is when I received my blue belt from Travis. There was no ceremony or promotion day…he lined us up, awarded me my belt and we went back to training. It was simple, but very important.”

Looking ahead to this upcoming fight against Kane Gutierrez, Bobby says he’s done everything and prepared as well he can do to take this step.

“I’ve been up running at 6am on most days. I’m feeling confident. I’ve had a couple of minor injuries here and there but I am as good as a person who trains as much as I do can be physically. Mentally, I have been preparing for this for a while so once I get in the cage and turn my “mode” on, I will be feeling perfect. My team, coaches, and students all believe in me. I don’t want to let them down. Anytime I compete, everywhere I go, I represent Team Lutter and carry them with me every time I step on the mat or in a cage.”

“I am up running at 6am so I can win, I train with world champions so I can win, I train with high level professional fighters so I can win, I am mentally and physically prepared to win. With that said, I am a BJJ player above all else, but if a KO is there my hands are quick and carry a lot of power. The main goal is to win in any way possible. After this, me and Travis will sit down and plan out the next step. My BJJ goal is to be no-gi world champion too. I’m heading to Cali in November to do just that so there’s a lot going on this year and I’m ready to go for all of it.”

“I want to thank TXMMA for the interview and thank Mike for covering everything that is MMA/BJJ in Texas. I want to thank God, my momma…I love you Darlene. My Coaches: Travis, Chris, Wes, Buddy, and Big Jeff. My team mates, my students and Team Lutter as a whole. Jerry, I appreciate you for everything brother. My sponsor: Honor Fight Gear, Larry and Jimmy for everything y’all have done and will do. Everyone that has to put up with me when I cut weight. And for everyone who keeps making excuses to why I keep winning…you keep hating and I’m going to keep winning. TEAM LUTTER!!!”
