LEGACY 12 – Silverback’s Scotty Juarez looking to kickstart career against former champ Ray Blodget

7.6.12 Update  – We’re hearing rumors of a speculated opponent change for Juarez with his opponent Ray Blodget potentially being moved to face Nick Gonzalez due to a medical clearance issue for Rey Trujillo. More on this as it develops.

HOUSTON, TX, July 5, 2012 – It’s been a long time coming for him after two years inactive from competition but Scotty Juarez finally returns to the cage next Friday July 13th when he steps in against former 155 lbs. champ Ray Blodget on the LEGACY 12 undercard scheduled for Houston’s Arena Theater.

The First fighting son of Silverback Fight Club’s “head gorilla” Coach Tony Orozco (there are several others now), Scotty was actually a big reason for the existence of their team in the first place. In a Feb 2011 interview with the elder Orozco,  Tony stated that Scotty’s burgeoning fight career was the main reason he wanted to start the team in the first place – as a means to help the then-18 year old to get work in with competitive training partners in preparation for a pro career.

Oddly enough, the gym has grown by leaps and bouts since that time but Scotty’s own career has yet to get off the ground after one win each at the amateur and pro levels. Now, two years after his  last bout, Juarez is looking to play a little catch up and will do so against a stiff test right off the bat.

“Ray Blodget seems like very respectable opponent,” he says. I’ve never heard anything bad about him and we’ve introduced ourselves to one another at some of these past events. I wanna thank him for giving me this opportunity to fight him knowing that he was and ex champ and I have only one pro fight.”

As for his preparations, Scotty indicates that despite going on two years since his last bout (a first round win by TKO), he’ll be motivated and ready to go come fight night.

“My motivation for this fight is my fiancée. She has never seen me fight so she pushed me to see war and find out what I’m capable of! She said she can’t be with a man who can’t protect her!

My whole silverback team has helped me for my fight but I really wanna thank my dad for being there the most when I needed him whether it was training me in the late hours of the day or helping me with a buck or two when I needed it! My weight cut was rather easy this time around. I’ve been able to train 3 times a day and be on an all fruits and vegetable diet!  The weight comes off like nothing!

As far as being ready, don’t worry about that. I’m a well-rounded fighter. I’ve been training BJJ for 11 years, Muay Thai for 8, boxing for 5, and wresting for 2. From what I hear, he (Ray) is also well-rounded so it will be come down to who out-techniques the other opponent. I picture this one as being a real battle.

I wanna thank Carlos Diego (Ferreira) for helping me out on BJJ and congrats to him on his win in Corpus Christi! I wanna thank my dad for keeping his gym doors open for me! I wanna thank Henry for always holding hand pads for me! I wanna thank my fiancé for pushing me to fight because without her I’d be sitting on my ass eating and drinking and getting fat! I want to thank all the fighters out of silverback fight club for helping me train and being my sparing partners, with u guys I wouldn’t be able to train! Thank u legacy for having me on the card and thank my momma for having me!”
