Dale Mitchell lands on Tony Melton.

HOUSTON, TX, June 17, 2012 – Jake Latimer’s Immortal Kombat Fighting rolled in The Edge Sports Complex in North Houston (Spring) for their third event last night, entitled IMKF III, “The Revelation.”

This evening of fights were characterized by the first-round finish. Outside of three contests that went to the judges’ scorecards, seven out the ten bouts never made it past the opening round as combatants looked to established themselves in the Houston MMA scene with strong performances.

In the main event of the evening, “Alpha Male” Dale Mitchell was able to bring his winning streak to an impressive 4 victories in a row with a first round TKO over Tony Melton that also earned him the IMKF heavyweight belt, his first title as a pro. It only took a minute or so for the new champion to finish this bout with a barrage of punches after trapping his opponent on the fence. Melton also had his own 4-fight winning streak snapped as Dale went at him aggressively right from the start. Melton displayed some quick hands but they were largely ineffective against Mitchell who would not stop coming forward.

The co-main event of the evening featured two pedigreed strikers facing off with 40+ fight veteran Lee King taking on the undefeated Geraldo Abadie. Coming back to MMA after a 4-year layoff,  Abadie would charge out of the gates in this one attacking Lee with some vicious looking leg kicks. King would stay composed in the striking department until he found his opening to take his opponent to the ground. Gaining mount, Lee would fire off a few shots to his opponent’s face before taking his back and finishing off the contest with a rear-naked-choke for the win.

Jared Chafee with an impressive slam.

Another veteran also picked up a victory with longtime North Houston (Conroe) resident Rocky Long bringing his official record to 20-28-1 after beating Chop Rocker (2-1) by unanimous decision. Rocky used his definite experience advantage to stay out of trouble in this one and win rounds with timely takedowns. After the bout, Rocky’s original and current BJJ instructor Alvis Solis (Solis Martial Arts) stepped into the cage to award Rocky with his purple belt in the cage in front of the crowd in attendance.

Also impressing in undercard action was Jared Chafee of Gracie Barra The Woodlands. He brought his pro record up to 2-0 with a convincing unanimous decision victory over David Armas (Silverback Fight Club). Jared was relentless in his pressure from the opening bell and would not give Armas any space to get anything off before taking him down and taking his back in each round. To his credit, David refused to be tapped in this one but Jared’s performance was nearly flawless nonetheless.
