American Revolution’s Dustin Adams seeks first pro win at XKO 15; Facing Travis Lutter student Zack Board

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, May 30, 2012 – It’s been nine months since American Revolution’s Dustin Adams made his pro debut at XKO 12. It was on that night that he and Octagon MMA’s Andrew Parker (a fellow debut fighter) engaged in a back-and-forth three round war that left both men exhausted, battered and bruised but otherwise little worse for wear considering that they had now arrived as pros with a ‘fight of the night’ that had the crowd on their feet.

Dustin would lose the unanimous decision that night but earned a TXMMA Pro Fight of the Year nomination for his efforts along with his opponent Parker. They would finish as third runner ups in the final tally but won the people’s choice award for their efforts – not bad for two rookies in the brutal world of mixed martial arts.

Despite the accolades, Adams was not satisfied on that night.

“It was a tough loss,” he says. “I didn’t fight like I could have (against Parker) but now I’m ready to do that.

Counting his debut loss as the fuel that’s motivated him heading in his fight this Saturday night against Travis Lutter student Zack Board, Dustin has worked like an animal in the gym with coach Freddy Medellin and crew.

“I’m feeling great he says,” I’ve been training hard at all aspects of the game – striking, grappling, submissions…. I’m also swimming or running every day. As a fighter I just try to be the best I can and make sure I keep my work ethic up. I also instruct at my gym as well so I want to be a role model to others.”

For him, living as a fighter is not without its challenges however.

“The toughest thing for me is probably maintaining a clean and healthy diet. I love peanut butter but I have to make sure I eat right – lots of lean meats, chicken, fish, vegetables, nuts, and beans. It’s hard to manage all of it perfectly because of the amount of training we do at American Revolution. You’ve got to have a decent amount of caloric intake to not feel depleted.”

All in all Dustin is just ready to get in there at XKO 15 and finally show what he’s made of. He wants to show his friends and family that he can engage in a ‘fight of the night’ type of effort just as he did against Andrew Parker but come out on the winning end. Most of all, he wants to do it while having fun.

“Anything can happen but I’m just excited to get in there and do this. All I want is my hand raised in the end.”
