Killeen, TX, April 30, 2012 – A new amateur promotion debuted this past Saturday night in Killeen, TX with ABG Promotions. The upstart league featured 9 bouts for their initial event at the Killeen Special Events Center – including a main event featuring popular pro-ready local fighter and former Copperas Grove football alumni Geoffrey Neal taking on Lester Clark for the 170 lbs. Texas title.
Fighting in perhaps one of his last amateur bouts, the Twin Wolves fighter Neal succeeded in dispatching his would-be challenger quickly with a technical knockout in round one to quickly win the belt without taking on too much damage.
The show also featured not one, not two, but three female bouts on the night – a breath of fresh air considering the dearth of opportunities for female fighters historically on the Texas (and nationwide) fight scene. With this and promotions like the all-female Invicta FC (also held this past weekend) and Legacy Amateur Series making it a priority to put women on their cards, we could be looking at even more female bouts in the future – a very exciting premonition considering how exciting women’s fights tend to be in the sport of MMA.
With that in mind, several observers who were on hand for fight night reported back to TXMMA that the women stole the show on this card.
Audrey Alvarez and Sabrina Garcia both scored impressive TKO’s in their fights while Christi Morgan won over Ashley Cannon in a hard-fought decision.
