Legacy Amateur Series 8 Interview – Hugo Delafuente (Bushi Ban)

Hugo, how long have you been training?

Well I’ve been training in MMA for about 3 years now. I started fighting simply because I thought it would be fun.

As a fan of the sport, do you watch a lot of MMA aside from training in it?

I absolutely love watching MMA fights! My favorite fight and the first fight I ever saw was Pete Sell vs. Scott Smith. I was bored just flipping through the TV when I saw the fight going on then BAM! Scott gets hit hard in the gut and just delivers an all or nothing strike that just put Sell down…That was my “holy shit” moment and something that got me motivated to get into this.

What do you want to accomplish in the near future?

There’s nothing I’ve thought of more than being in the newly made flyweight class! I want to do well in this division!

What do you do in your off-time from training?

Really when I’m not working I’m playing games, working, or training. Not much else going on than training and gaming at the moment but that’s going to change. I’ve recently pledged to become a U.S Marine come December.

That’s a big deal and a lot to look forward to. Thank you ahead of time for your service. About this Saturday, how has camp been for this fight?

Fight camp has been good, what we really been focusing on is getting over the huge reach I’ll have to deal with but Mr. Alex Black doesn’t have any quarrels beating me up! <laughs>

Tell us more about your opponent, Ryan Hollis.

Well I know he’s tall….and lanky…..he likes sushi apparently. I saw him at the Dungal and I think he has an ok ground game…All people fall when hit in the face though… <laughs> No seriously, he’s a nice guy and I hope we don’t beat each other up too bad…not that I won’t try.

How do you expect to win this fight?

I expect to win this fight with a lot of punching, some kicking… An arm may bend in the wrong direction and if you’re lucky you may see a Hulk Hogan leg drop…..oh and luchador masks. I can’t forget that.

Any message for Ryan before Saturday?

Just a few – “Don’t hit my face,” “Please drop your hands,” and eventually, “Do you smell something funny?” <laughs> Really I would just say good luck and let’s have a good fight….and please keep your hands low.

Any last words?

I’d like to thank my sponsor BloodHound Industries, Mi familia, everyone at bushi ban…except that one guy…he knows who he is! and everyone in the armed forces! I will be one of you shortly. Expect a lucha libre!
