CDM’s Elite Amateur Combat 2 – Results, Recap, and Photo Gallery

HOUSTON, TX, April 9, 2012 – CDM Promotions held their second show in front of a full house at the Northwest Soccer Facility in Northwest Houston last night. Elite Amateur Combat 2 featured nine fights overall with the two final fights crowning 2 champions for the organization in the lightweight and featherweight divisions.

Perhaps the most exciting performance of the night came in the co-main event of the evening when Port Arthur native Joel Scott took on Ft. Hood’s Brian Sullivan for the CDM 145 lbs. title. The two fighters traded strikes and jockeyed for position for the brief two minutes of this fight before Scott was able to deliver an absolutely devastating blow while standing over his downed opponent. The bout was ruled as a TKO but there is no down that Joel’s ground-and-pound attack delivered Sullivan out of consciousness for a few brief moments in the end. It was certainly an impressive victory for the 29 year old. He now moves to 4-1 overall as an amateur while claiming the first title of his young career.

In the other main event of the evening, Kingwood MMA’s John Haydon took on CDM’s Jose Gomez for the CDM 155 lbs. title after Fort Hood soldier Phillip Platt had to pull due to injury. Jose was announced as making his MMA debut in this one and Haydon welcomed him to the sport with a clinic on the Muay Thai clinch. The Kingwood product was able to control the entire bout from that position, using punches, knees, and everything at his disposal to score on his opponent. The end came early in round two when the bout finally hit the ground. From there, Haydon was able to secure the arm-triangle choke from mount to bring his amateur record to 2-4 and bring home his first title belt.

There were several exciting highlights on the undercard, including the matchup between Daniel Delgado and Cesar Del Angel. This would be a rematch from their first fight at Cage Combat 7 this past January that was won by Del Angel. The two would trade some dynamic strikes in this one with both throwing a plethora of high kicks as part of their arsenal. Daniel would make sure his cardio was up to par in this one though as he was able to pull away with the unanimous decision. Other impressive performances were turned in by Dat Nguyen, Arturo Delgado, and others to wrap up the action in Northwest Houston.
