DALLAS, TX, March 20, 2012 – Bellator 62 is fast approaching this Friday and we’re doing our best here at TXMMA.com to get you the most detailed pre-fight coverage of this BFC / Ultimate Warrior MMA co-promoted event you can find anywhere on the web. This morning we spoke to RGV native Joseph Daily (5-2) who’ll be fighting in front of what could be considered a “hometown crowd” of sorts as he seeks to use MMA as a platform to further his own career and enrich the lives of those around him. This afternoon, we spoke to his opponent as well and it not surprising that he has similar goals in mind as far as what this fight means to him as well.

Those that have seen Sean Spencer perform in the cage will tell you he’s a top welterweight prospect out of the Dallas area. He proved that this past December when he won a convincing unanimous decision over Marshall, TX veteran and recent Bellator winner Derrick Krantz at the inaugural Fight Game event in Grapevine. But as we all know though in this fight game (pun intended), things can change in an instant and it takes proving yourself over and over again to make it in this “What have you done for me lately type of world.” Now 7-1 overall, Sean is looking to validate his status once again as a prospect to watch out for with his first 2012 appearance against Daily this Friday night at the Laredo Energy Arena. According to him, a win in this fight matters more to him than anything else right now.

Read on and see what else is on Sean’s mind as he prepares his fight at Bellator 62 this Friday.

Bellator 62 Pre-Fight Interview – Sean “Black Magik” Spencer

Hey Sean, thanks for taking the time to talk to us as always. It’s been a few months since your last fight in December. What have you been up to you in your time off?

Man, I would love to tell you that I had a long vacation in the Caribbean Mike but honestly I’ve been in training ever since my last fight on Dec. 2nd. I’ve made a lot of good changes in my life and in my training. I’m excited to show the world what I’ve been working on come March 23rd in Laredo.

How does it feel to be fighting for Bellator? What’s this opportunity mean for you?

It feels great getting the opportunity to fight on a stage like Bellator. It’s clarification that the team is making the right moves and I have the right people around me to make big things happen.

This Friday means a lot to me. I’ve been watching Bellator for a while now and fighting for them is an honor and accomplishment in itself but getting this win over Joseph Daily is the main thing on my mind right now however, I am hoping that winning this fight will open up the door to fighting on the main card for Bellator and possibly a title shot in the future so I’m ready to get in there and do what I have to do.

You sound like you’re taking this one very seriously. Are there any extra nerves going into this fight?

I am always nervous going into every fight but as far as feeling extra nerves fighting for them, to be honest with you I don’t have any. To me, it’s a fight like any other. I am nervous like always but more ready than ever.

What do you think of your opponent Joseph Daily? What do you think he brings to the table that you have to watch out for?

I feel that Joseph Daily is a very good match-up me. From what I’ve seen he has good wrestling skill and has pretty good standup skills and. With a 5-2 record I know that he’s game to fight. At this level I think everyone you face is a threat. When I find out who I’m fighting I become aware of their strengths and weaknesses and then I will train to the best of my ability to be ready for anything that happens in the fight. That’s the mentality I’m approaching this Friday with.

When are you and your team headed down to Laredo? What’s this week been like so far?

We’re heading out on Wednesday. Fight week for me is all about cutting weight, staying focused and positive. I am going to be at the office working like normal up until the day I leave and since all the hard work is done I’ll only be in the gym about 45 minutes a night getting my weight down. Other than that, I’ll be relaxing and keeping my mind right for this weekend.

How does this fight play out when you visualize it in your mind?

I envision myself winning this fight by KO but the win doesn’t always happen the way you plan it. No matter how I get this win I want to go out there and put on the best performance the Bellator fans have ever seen.

Any last words for Joseph Daily before you see him later this week?

I know that you want to win this fight more than any that you have had before but March 23rd is my night so you can go ahead and cancel your post fight victory party plans.

Any last words for your fans here in Texas or anywhere else?

I want to thank everyone so much for all the support they have shown. Thanks to all of my friends and family from Texas, Bluefield, VA, West Virginia, Johnson City, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. You all make fighting to get to the top worth the battle.

Any other last words?

I want to thank God for blessing me and putting me in the path of so many great people and bringing me this far. A huge thanks to all of my training partners, Matt Rossini with Imperial Fight Management for all of the thought and hard work he puts into everyone of his fighters, LoanStar Title Loans, DOM, Warrior Training Ground, Power Play Fitness, Premier Health & Chiropractic, Octagon MMA, Mohler MMA, Star Jiu Jitsu, CRYO USA, Glenn Vo DDS, and Breast Cancer Awareness.

Thank you Mike for taking the time to write this article.
