Texas Rage in the Cage 13 Pre-Fight Interview – Joey Montiel

Thanks for taking the time to talk to TXMMA during fight week Joey. Tell us a little about yourself.

Well I grew up in a single parent home. My mom and my sister pretty much raised me.  I never really got in to trouble or was involved with gangs or things of that nature. I was really more into sports. In High School I involved with track, football, etc. and when I graduated I knew I wanted to do something else because I was so competitive, so I decided to try MMA. I never really liked to get into fights so it’s kind of ironic that I am a MMA fighter now.

How would you describe yourself as an MMA fighter at this point?

I would describe myself as a tactical / action-oriented fighter. I always try and put on a great show when I step in to the cage. Everyone can expect is an ever-evolved version of my fighting skills every time they see me fight, I have always been a self motivated person, and so to be the best I can be as a fighter is the goal that keeps me working.

What are some of your other goals in the sport?

Well now that I found the weight class that is right for me (125) I think I will be making waves in this division. I feel like I am one of the bigger flyweight fighters out there so I’m going to continue what I’m doing and try to be the best in this sport.

How do you feel heading into Texas Rage in the Cage 13 this week?

I feel great heading into these last days before the fight, I am feeling relaxed… no nerves, just confidence.

What are some of things you do to help you relax and keep focus?

I have a large Salt Water fish tank. I enjoy looking at my fish and their bright colors for relaxation.

How’s your fight camp been heading into this fight?

Camp has been the best it has ever been. It was a tough one… With each camp we take training to the next level. I can’t give credit to just one person for helping me through this. Everyone at PSF has helped me a lot with the fight camp and I am grateful and appreciate all of their help.

What do you know about your opponent, Will Spidle? Do you any predictions as far as how you think you’ll win?

I don’t really know much about him but I do know he has several fights in Louisiana and won his last fight. My prediction for this fight… I would say a stoppage in the second round by TKO.

Any words for Will before Friday night?

I don’t like to trash talk to anyone because I think it shows disrespect and I’m not about that. If anything, all I would say is let’s put on a show for the fans.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I would just like to say to everyone that has been supporting me and helping me with my fights thank you for all of your time put in to help me and Good Bless.
