Robert Drysdale set to take on “Hurricane” Ike Villanueva in May 11th Legacy FC Debut

HOUSTON, TX, February 20, 2012 – As he revealed earlier this morning on his Facebook page, it will be “Hurricane” Ike Villanueva (8-6) welcoming multiple-time grappling world champion Robert Drysdale to the Legacy Fighting Championship this coming May 11th at LFC 11.

“It’s time to step my game up and get on the next level,” mentioned Villanueva about the upcoming bout which should represent the biggest of four-year career thus far.

Villanueva will be hoping to turn around a recent streak that’s had him lose his last two in a row to another pair of up-and-coming MMA prospects in Justin Ledet and Larry Crowe. A boxer by specialty, he’ll no doubt be looking for the knockout against his highly-touted opponent. “It’s time to rumble in H-Town. Hurricane Ike will be ready for everything and I plan on holdin’ it down for my city!”

As for Robert Drysdale, he too will be looking forward to showing some things in the nationally-televised bout set for HDNet. More important than any type of exposure for him though is his impetus on personal improvement moving into his fourth pro MMA bout and beyond. Despite the fact that he’s accomplished much in his career – tapping Marcelo Garcia, winning ADCC absolute gold, and winning the Mundials several times over reign chief among his accomplishments… Robert still feels like he has a long way to go to get to where he wants in the sport of MMA.

“Without question there’s a big transition that’s had to be made,” Drysdale said about the transition from grappler to fighter in a recent TXMMA.com interview. “I think it’s a lot harder than people think (making the jump from grappling to MMA), you know? A lot of people think that if you’re skilled in jiu-jitsu that all you have to do is learn how to strike and I think it’s a lot more complicated than that. I think you have to go through some major transformations and that’s what I’ve been putting my focus on.”

With May 11th being just the first of a three fight deal with Legacy, Drysdale has one goal in mind and that’s beating Ike Villanueva.

“I’m definitely looking forward to this and I want to make sure everyone knows I’m training hard for this fight. I take all my fights very seriously and I’m not taking this lightly. Expect to see me at the best I can possibly be. I’m not going to be in there just to be in there. This is about performing well and I have high expectations for myself and that’s what it’s all about.”

Legacy Fighting Championship 11 is scheduled for May11, 2012 at the Arena Theater in Houston, TX and is set to air live on HDNet’s Friday Night Fights. Stay tuned for more news and coverage of this upcoming card here on TXMMA.com as it comes to us.
