James DeHerrera Looking to Unleash on Jacob Silva at Cage Combat 7

HOUSTON, TX, January 5, 2011 – One of the more interesting matchups upcoming tomorrow night at Garcia Promotions’ Cage Combat 7 features former 125 lbs. champion Jacob Silva stepping back into the cage for the first time since dropping his belt to Joe Trevino this past September at CC5. This time around, “Little Animal” will be taking on 20 year old James DeHerrera training out of Team Unleashed in College Station.

Fancying himself as a Freestyle Fighter nowadays, James says he trained as a boxer for over nine years before converting over to Mixed Martial Arts.

Now he says he’s looking to take things to the next level with coach Carl Perry and the rest of the squad at Team Unleashed.

“We’re a good school,” he says. “We stick together and train hard. I do a lot of work by myself when it comes to getting in shape but when I need help with my ground or anything else, Carl Perry is always there to help me train. I’ve been training non-stop for a long time. Ever since my last fight I’ve never stopped training. This is my life and I’m determined to be the best.”

Winning his most recent fight by triangle choke at Cage Combat 6 over Carlos Jimenez, DeHerrera is now looking to prove he is on another level against the former champion tomorrow night in Humble.

Based on what he has to say about “Little Animal,” this matchup should be a barnburner.

“Jacob Silva is a really cocky person,” he says about his upcoming opponent. “I don’t think he’s all that good and I know I will beat him on Friday. This fight is not going the distance. I’m ready and I can’t wait to fight.”
