Interview – Jeremy Morris

Before we talk about the fight, I want to ask more about life outside the cage so fans can get to know you. Who is Jeremy Morris when he’s not fighting or training?

Outside of fighting I’m just a regular Joe and unless you’re arrogant and come across as a hardass I can get along with pretty much anybody. I do stay pretty busy. I currently volunteer for the League City Volunteer Fire Department and work full time at Skilled Craftsmen as a recruiter in the skilled trades’ field. Other than that, it’s mostly just hanging out with my beautiful Fiancé. We will be getting married here in April in Jamaica which we are very excited for.

What’s the story of how you ended up becoming a pro fighter?

To be honest, it felt like the right time and right opponent. I felt my skill level was good enough to compete as a pro – the only thing I was lacking was experience in the cage.

How do you end up managing being you job and work as a fire fighter with being a fighter?

Family is a huge part of my life and being that every one of them are so supportive of what I do, it makes it that much easier. Yes, I feel there is never enough time in the day to get all I want accomplished, but there are fighters out there doing the same thing I am PLUS raising their kids as well. That’s a full time job in itself, so hats off to them.

How does your family feel about you fighting?

My family is some of my biggest fans. Even though my Mom actually will not watch the fights in person, she still supports me. As my Mom would say “You just beat him up ok” haha I love my Mom

If you weren’t a fighter, what do you think you’d be doing with your time?

I probably would be teaching more often and maybe complete some more schooling and obtain my EMT- Intermediate then Paramedic.

Your last fight with Pat Bierschwale (IXFA, February) was also your first loss. Tell us about that fight.

I was very disappointed in myself in that particular fight. Pat had a great game plan and did what he planned to do, but I felt if I would have just let the hands go and been smarter with my kicks, it could have changed the outcome. I have all the respect to Pat as a fighter and as a person. I learned a lot from the fight with Pat.

What are your thoughts on your upcoming fight with Justin Murray at LFC 9?

I’m very excited for this match up. Justin is an intelligent fighter and I feel that is what makes him a dangerous opponent. I’m just looking forward to demonstrating my skills in this fight to the fullest.

What strengths do you feel he brings as an opponent?

His BJJ I know is very good but I haven’t got see too much of his stand up so I guess we will have to see.

How do you feel heading into next Friday?

I feel fantastic; better than I have in my previous fights. I’ve had heavyweight pro boxer, Mean Gene Hill helping me tremendously with my boxing which has been a great experience, most the time……he hits very hard! I have to give credit to my trainer Jason Carter and all of my teammates for helping me get ready day in and day out. They really push me hard and I’m very thankful they are there to do so.

Any predictions on the outcome of the fight?

I plan on finishing this fight one way or another.

What’s next for you after December 16th?

I’ll be getting married to the woman of my dreams in April and as for MMA…on to the next one.

Any last words before the fight?

Just want to thank my trainer Jason Carter, Mean Gene Hill, all of my team that helped me get ready, my family, friends,  Furia, reviraservices.net, Francas’ Real Italian Restaurant, R1KO Fightwear, TXMMA.com and thecagedoor.net, ya’ll guys do a fantastic job for the sport of MMA, thanks for everything!
