Elite Amateur Combat 1 – Event Preview

HOUSTON, TX, November 28, 2011 – It’s time for another event week in the Houston area with CDM Promotions’ Elite Amateur Combat 1 set to take place at Legends Sports Complex this coming Friday. As we mentioned in our initial presser covering this show, the purpose of this event is two-fold – one, to develop a new venue for the area’s up-and-comers to showcase their talents at the amateur level, but also to aid in the cause of helping create a better life and a positive future for Houston’s at-risk youth with the CDM Boxing Youth Center.

You can check out our detailed interview with CDM promoter Reynaldo Rueda for more information on this cause and the event itself. Now let’s take a look at the upcoming card and offer our synopsis on what fans can expect based on what we have listed. As always, fight cards (especially at the amateur level) are subject to shifts before event time so don’t be surprised if this card morphs before Friday.

Who to Watch Out For at Elite Amateur Combat 1

Headlining the card is a pair of title fights involving Team Tooke fighters in Andrew “Punisher” Musquiz and Aaron Croon who are fighting for CDM’s inaugural title belts at lightweight and featherweight.  Both fighters are looking to come back from a pair of hard-fought losses sustained at Cage Combat as they look to earn their first belt. Also of note is that this is Musquiz’s first time back in the cage since a medical scare had him thinking his fighting days were done for good. To earn his belt, Andrew will have to defeat a formidable grappler in College Station’s Ryan Rivera while Croon will have to contend for his against active duty against active duty soldier Johnny Ray Rodriguez – who is also an instructor at the Fort Hood Combatives training center in addition to being an up-and-coming fighter.

As for the rest of the undercard, its filled primarily with debuting and developing fighters in the lighter weight divisions from flyweight up to the 170 limit of welterweight. We’re not quite sure what to expect from these young fighters quite yet but expect them to fight hard as they look to make an impression on the Houston MMA Scene.
