UWF 1 Results – War Machine Bests Roger Huerta for First Win Since Release

PHARR, TX, November 27, 2011 –It was night of exciting MMA action down in the Rio Grande Valley as Ultimate Warrior Fighting(UWF) hosted their premier event in front of robust crowd in attendance down at the Pharr Events Center.

The main event would see former UFC fighters Roger “El Matador” Huerta and War Machine (formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver) go at it in a battle to determine which fighter would bounce back to relevancy in the national MMA scene. Suprising many heavily pro-Huerta crowd, it was War Machine who was able to utilize his size and strength to subdue his smaller opponent who was fighting at welterweight for the first time in years. Fighting in his first bout back since completing his jail sentence stemming from a bar fight, War Machine was able to end things in third with ground-and-pound from the mounted position. Word is that a rib injury ultimately led to the TKO but either way, it’s War Machine who gains momentum from this one.

In the co-main event, West Texas mainstay Eric “Big Head” Davila succumbed to a guillotine choke to fellow MMA veteran Dave Menne. With this victory, “The Warrior” now moved his 15 year MMA record to 46-16-2 while Davila will now have to come back from suffering his first loss since February of 2010. Prior to this bout, “Big Head” had won his last three in a row impressively so Texas fans should expect him to bounce back in short order after getting caught in this one.

As for the rest of the card, it was a mixture of career progress for some and heartbreaking losses for others.

Looking particularly impressive in victory was Carlos Diego Ferreira, who used his superior grappling acumen to take quick control of his opponent Clinton Roberts with a sweep and several submission attempts in the first round before finishing off the Jackson MMA trained fighter via rear-naked-choke in the second stanza.

Scott Cleve and Dee Jay Fuentes both scored upset victories over highly favored opponents in Derek Campos and Nick Gonzalez respectively. The Fuentes/Gonzalez fight in particular was a crowd pleaser as both men gave it their all in slugging it out for three rounds before the third round stoppage in favor of the South Texas based Fuentes with 9 seconds left on the clock. As for Scott Cleve, this win snaps a 2-fight losing streak bringing him to 5-2 overall. Campos now drops to 5-2 as well after losing for the first time since his February 2010 fight with Diego Brandao at Austin’s King of Kombat.

Decision wins by Christopher Brooks over Victor Hernandez and Adan De La Garza over Alfredo Castro would round out the rest of the night at UWF 1.

Time will tell what’s next for Oscar Enriquez and the UWF but word is that their next event is already in the works for early 2012. Stay tuned here to TXMMA.com for more news from Ultimate Warrior Fighting as it develops.
