The reason for this is quite simple.
The significance of this Saturday’s event can’t be overstated enough. UFC on FOX isn’t simply just another UFC milestone, another proverbial notch on the bedpost as were the purchases of PRIDE FC, WEC, or even Strikeforce. What we’re talking about here is an event that could lead the way for the future viability of Mixed Martial Arts as a mainstream sport for American audiences and those all around the world.
With UFC on FOX 1, more people will be watching MMA at any one moment than ever before in its relatively young history.
That much has been evident since the initial UFC/FOX press conference announcing this joint venture between the world’s #1 MMA promotion and the FOX network but it has been even clearer as of late with FOX promoting the event on sports broadcasts that have included Major League Baseball and NFL on FOX events. The network has even aired a UFC Primetime Special right smack in the middle of NFL gameday, garnering impressive ratings while competing against NFL broadcasts on competing networks. Now, with only five short (or long, depending on who you talk to) days until the landmark occasion, the questions remains that begs to be answered.
Is America ready for MMA to become a verifiable mainstream sport?
