CORPUS CHRISTIE, TX, November 2, 2011 – The last time we spoke to Corpus Christi’s Paulina Granados, she had just gotten back from an overseas training trip. In fact, she detailed that experience on her TXMMA Muay Thai Travel Guide to Thailand but now she’ll finally get an opportunity to put some of those acquired skills to good use when she takes on Ashley Meza on this Friday’s Cage Combat 6 card set for the Humble Civic Center.

In preparation for the bout, we talked to Paulina so she could give Texas MMA fans some in-depth insight on how and why she began in MMA, what she spends her time outside the cage, and what it’s been like for her leading up to this week ending fight for Garcia Promotions.

Enjoy this latest TXMMA interview with American Revolution’s Paulina Granados.

Paulina, before we talk about Friday, tell our readers bit more about you. What do you do when you’re not getting ready for a fight?

I am a personal trainer. I love to make people laugh and I love to dance. I like arts and crafts and I love to cook and bake also. I like to make something out of nothing. I also enjoy the beach and singing karaoke with my family! I like to sing Shakira and Selena songs! <laughs>

When did you first get involved with Mixed Martial Arts?

I got involved with the sport during the summer of 2009. I’ve always been into extreme sports but mixed martial arts seemed like the most mentally and physically challenging so I wanted to try it, and of course, I fell in love with the challenge. Stand-up used to be my favorite but now that I have learned to grapple and wrestle and the transitions in between, it all seems like a beautiful piece of art!

What’s it like training at your gym down in Corpus Christi? Who helps you most there?

American Revolution is totally awesome! I love learning all the techniques and I love the emphasis on keeping everything sharp. 17 classes are offered throughout the week plus fighters training 6 days a week. That’s a whole lot of training time for me! The fight team helps me out the most – those guys are my brothers and my mentors. I really look up to all of them! Jared, Freddy, Locker, Dustin, Chris, & Patrick!

How would you describe your style as a fighter?

I am aggressive and smart in the cage but I am also not scared to take risks when I seen an open opportunity. I have always been confident in my standup, but it was after my first grappling tournament a little over a year ago when I decided that I also felt confident with my ground game. Now I feel fully ready to get into the cage.

What’s it been like getting ready for Cage Combat 6 on Friday night?

It’s been tough. Actually, it’s always tough but I have done it before so I know what to expect. It’s my first time competing at 110 lbs so that was basically the only obstacle, besides minor injuries during training, but that’s just all a part of it. I haven’t been 110 lbs since I was a senior in high school! <laughs>

What do you know about your opponent, Ashley Meza?

I do not know much about her except her name and her gym name.

With that being said, how do you think you’re going to win this fight?

I don’t know how I will win but I know my hand will be raised! It better be! <laughs>

What about afterwards? Any MMA plans for the future?

I have my eye on a nice shiny belt in Vegas…

If you could say one thing to your opponent right now, what would you tell Ashley?

Let’s go in there and put on a show! Let’s show them what girls are made of!

Any last words before Friday, Paulina?

It’s going to be a fun night so everyone should go! I would like to thank Eric Garcia for letting me fight for Cage Combat, Freddy Medellin my awesome and funny instructor and friend, all of my training partners, Jared, Chris, Dustin, Locker and Patrick for always being there to help me improve and putting up with me when I act like a girl, my sponsors Rocks Discount Vitamins N More for all the awesome supplements that help me train like a champ and keep me healthy, and Tussle Fight Gear for always sending me fight gear to keep me looking fly in the cage! Last, but definitely not least, YOU and TXMMA.com for being interested in what I have to say! See you at the fights!
