HOUSTON, TX, October 2, 2011 – As we originally mentioned last week on the TXMMA Facebook page, a grappling superfight between two UFC veterans will be headlining the Grappler’s Quest event that will be going on in concert with the UFC Fan Expo next weekend in Houston. The contests will happen on Saturday, October 8th, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston.

Representing the state of Texas in this main event is TJ Waldburger (Grappler’s Lair) – current owner of the UFC’s record for most submission attempts in one fight (against David Mitchell) and a longtime fixture on the Texas fight scene prior to making his way to the octagon. He’ll be taking on Marc Stevens, an ‘Ultimate Fighter 12’ contestant and the 2011 Grappler’s Quest New England champion.

Heading into the bout, TJ told TXMMA he’s excited to be doing something different for a change of pace after having recently notched a submission against Mike Stumpf at UFC Fight Night in New Orleans to get his 2nd UFC win.

“It’s been awhile since I’ve done a grappling event,” said Waldburger. “Even before I was in the UFC, I haven’t done a BJJ or grappling tournament in forever so this should be pretty fun. I know Marc Stevens is real good on the ground; he’s brown belt and aggressive so this one should be pretty fun. I look forward to seeing all the fans too and I thank everyone from Texas ahead of time for supporting me with this and for all the support in the past also. Thanks for cheering me on.”

Joining TJ in another featured superfight attraction is another Texan in BJJ black belt Wesley Gann (Team Lutter/Nova Uniao). He’ll be meeting ADCC North American champ and Oklahoma representative Justin Rader (Team Lovato) in what should be another very exciting affair.

The bouts are expected to take place around 1:30PM on Saturday to headline an awesome weekend of grappling and a plethora of other events going on at the EXPO.
