Douglas Frey to Face JMMA Veteran Masanori Kanehara October 22nd in Albuquerque

ARLINGTON, TX, September 19, 2011 – We recently spoke to “Sir” Douglas Frey (9-7) who let us in on his latest fight plans for next month at Jackson’s MMA Series in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The last time MMA fans saw Doug, he was on the losing end of an exciting ‘Fight of the Night’ performance at Shark Fights 17 against Erik Perez this past July. According to him, it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up, but also one he took on very short notice.

“I took the fight on a week notice and my first day of preparing for the fight I messed my ankle up real good sparring, so I was only able to ride an airdyne bike, swim, and do low impact drills for those few days. Coming into the fight I felt like I had nothing to lose. It was a great opportunity to fight on HDNet, so i just came out to put on a great show. I lost the decision, but won fight of the night honors.”

Following the bout, Frey spent much of his time helping teammate and UFC fighter Shane Roller prepare for his upcoming bout against TJ Grant but now he is also ready for another challenge of his own in the form of Masanori Kanehara (17-10-5), a ZSR, Deep, Sengoku, and K-1 veteran he will be facing at Jackson’s MMA Series on the 22nd of next month.

“Masanori Kanehara is one of the best fighters to ever come out of Japan. He has a ton of experience, has fought and beaten some of the best fighters in the world. It is going to be such an honor to throw down with this guy.”

Excited about the opportunity, Doug shared a little bit of his strategy with us as he goes into the bout looking for the big knockout.

“I intend to keep the pressure and look to KO him. I have been blessed with being apart of a training team that has recently brought in a new striking instructor, Steven Wright, who is a dutch-style kickboxer and was trained by Ernesto Hoost. Steven is also a fight wizard and he will definitely help with my preparation. Punch, punch, punch, punch, kick.”

Adding to that, he’s also excited not just for the fight but for the opportunity to fight for Jackson’s MMA Series. “I know that they put on great shows and treat the fighter’s very well,” he said about Albuquerque’s #1 fight promotion. “The air will be thin up there and I am hoping that my Training Mask will help prepare me for that.”

Looking ahead to the bout, Doug says he’s going to do his best to represent the state of Texas in this next challenge out of state against his out of country opponent.

“Texas is a giant pool of talented fighters and it is absolutely fantastic to be a part of the MMA scene in this great state! Keep fighting guys and girls…we are living the life that most can only dream about!”
